360 becoming retro

Post by crusto » Sun Jul 24, 2011 12:29 pm

I decided to have a blast on CoD 2 today. On playing it the game informed me that the last time it was played was in 2006. Thats a long time ago! Now I am fully aware how long I have had my 360, but that really rammed it home to me. The 360 is now most definetely retro. Time for the next gen. :D . That and I am bored with the current tech.

I can see where your coming from, but even though the 360 has been out for a long time now, the console is very much still a relevent platform with some stunning titles on the way. Retro it isn't in my book. I'm glad Sony and M$ have choosen to give consoles a longer life span, churning out a new system every 4-5 years is silly, especially in todays economic climate.

I'd say the original Xbox is only just barely retro now. The 360 is far from it.

We can't have the next gen yet, we've still got to wait over a year for Nintendo to bring Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc. to this one.

You realise it didn't originate with games consoles right?

Doesn't make it any less annoying. Not only that, but I see no reason to single out Microsoft. I'm sure I don't need to repeat my Capitalism rant.

Doesn't help at all. Sony is a Japanese company, thus the correct way to write it is Son¥.

Anyway, we had a topic here somewhere...

Pedant ;)

But back to Crusto's point - interestingly enough, although I wouldn't call the 360 retro, it's already had a longer continuous "service life" for me than any previous console. I had a Master System for about two years, a Mega Drive for about three, PS1 for about two, Dreamcast for one, PS2 for almost four years - but split between two units, one bought in 2002 and disposed of in 2003 and the other from 2009 to present - but the 360 has been my main gaming machine since I bought it on release.

Moving the goalpost mate. :?
The playstation 1 is on the line for retro just barely & the dreamcast can be forgiven for being retro.

No. I'm only grudgingly accepting other people think PS1 is retro. Last gen is just old.
