The 3DS just goes from strength to strength... just look at this line-up for the rest of 2017:

Devilish Brain Training - 28 July
Hey! Pikmin - 28 July
Miitopia - 28 July
Culdcept Revolt - 1 Sept
Monster Hunter Stories - 8 Sept
Metroid: Samus Returns - 15 Sept (re-make of Metroid II)
Pokemon Silver/Gold - 22 Sept (virtual console)
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions - 6 Oct
Fire Emblem Warriors - Oct
Pokemon Ultra Moon/Sun - 17 Nov

The 'Legacy Edition' of Metroid looks amazing...

Hey Pikmin and Samus Returns have inspired me to jump aboard the 3DS train. I also wanted the Ocarina Of Time and Majora's Mask remakes. I've played a few games already when I've borrowed my brother's system, but I've decided I want my own.

I never used the 3D much or game on the move, so the cheaper 2DS seemed like a good option. I've seen a lot of video reviews saying it's very comfortable to use and some even prefer it to the 3DS and 3DS XL.

I was pleasantly surprised you could get a new 2DS with a game for just £75, so I've ordered one with NSMB 2 pre installed. I've also ordered quite a few games, largely thanks to a good job lot bundle I found.

So far I have coming to me:

NSMB 2
NSMB (DS)
Ocarina Of Time
Majora's Mask
A Link Between Worlds
Luigi's Mansion
Super Mario 3D Land
Mario Kart 7
Starfox 64
Mario And Luigi: Dream Team
Mario Tennis Open

You won't be disappointed.
Plus is plays DS games and the DS library is incredibly varied and filled with fantastic stuff.
I've been heavily collecting for both systems over the last few months and have already amassed far too many games!

I was thinking the 2DS would be good for DS games with the smaller screens compared to the XL models.

Bear in mind that the DS has a different resolution to the 3DS, so you've either got to live with big borders or some rather imprecise scaling when using the backwards compatibility. As such, bigger is pretty much always better, at least so long as it's not too bulky to fit in your pocket.

The first 2DS model is basically a 1st model 3DS without the 3D under the hood. I found original DS games looked better on the bigger XL models than on the first model 3DS.

I use it with the borders and I don't find it an issue whatsoever. I can imagine it would bug some though. Using the New 2DS XL and the DS games look pretty great when you hold down the Start button as the game loads. Less impressive when you go full screen like you said, though.

Had a strange experience just now, was playing Majora's Mask and suddenly noticed a loud static sound, tried earphones and got the same static. Changed games to NSMB2, which sounded fine, then Ocarina Of Time, again fine, then Majora's Mask again, and it was back to normal, no static. Very strange. :? Hope it's just a one off.

The plot thickens. It's not just a one off, and it's not just my 2DS or cartridge. I borrowed my brother's 3DS XL and his copy of Majora's Mask to expiment with to see if it was my 2DS or cartridge causing the static. The first thing I did was play my brother's cartridge on his 3DS, and after about 10-15 minutes it did the same thing. So it must be a common fault with the game. Randomly, as you switch from area to another, there is static. You have to save and restart the game to get rid of it, though it could easily return as soon as 5 minutes.

Oddly though I can't see any mention of this online despite appearing to be a common and fairly noticeable problem.
