Previously unreleased in west This totally missed gem finally gets a fan translation from romhacker ryanbgstl :)
romhacking.net wrote:Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru, or For the Frog the Bell Tolls has you take on the role of the impetuous but good-natured Prince of Sable. As the Prince, you must save Princess Tiramisu and the desert and frog themed land of Mille-Feuille from the evil Lord Delarin…and do before your rival, the valiant Prince Richard, beats you to it.

Been playing this since last night and it's very compelling - proof that the GB was and still is able to provide gameplay experiences just as absorbing as any other console past or present.

Opinions/comments, please.

Woah wait, it looks like its in the style of an old top down Zelda game.
Is that an accurate analysis of the gameplay?
I asked for orange. It gave me lemon lime!

Sort of. The map sections are top down whereas the levels are platformers like the 2D Zelda sections in LOZ: Links Awakening and the LOZ: oracle seasons/ages crossed with metroid. Infact the engine for LOZ: Links Awakening is based on the one from For the Frog the Bell Tolls.

Excellent I get to play a close relation to one of my favourite games; the Prince Richard that is mentioned in the OP has a cameo as the frog guy in Link’s awakening.

Now I just hope somebody is working on the game that features Crazy Tracy.

I used snestool to patch it.

Works fine in Visualboy 1.7.2

http://sourceforge.net/projects/vba/fil ... p/download

snestool is downloadable from here:

http://www.romhacking.net/utils/18

Run it and when the menu apears hit "u" on your keyboard and use up and down arrows and enter/return to select the ips file then use up and down arrows and enter/return to select rom and your done.

Good luck!

I love this game. It shares a lot with Link's Awakening, including King Richard http://www.zeldawiki.org/Richard. The beta patch was sublime, so I'm looking forward to playing the game through again with the final patch. Honestly, this isn't to be missed by Zelda fans. It's a real classic.

Never heard of it before, but it looks a lot like Zelda - and seeing as Link's Awakening is one of my favourite games I think I'll give this a go. Cheers for the link :)

I ended up adding to my Game Boy EmuZone at vgMastersClub.com. You can go there and try it out to see if you like it. Thing is that my website Game Boy doesn't save so you either have to beat the game in one sitting or I recommend downloading and patching so you can run it in your own emulator.

So is the Crazy Tracy game on Game Boy or is that the Captain Rainbow game on the Wii?

Crazy Tracy is origanally from LOZ: Links Awakening and also is in Captain★Rainbow on the Wii. Captain★Rainbow was a Japan only game and is currently being translated by fans.

I'm sure there's a reference to For the Frog the Bell Tolls somewhere in a Zelda game? I've seen that phrase written down somewhere before. Perhaps just on another Zelda blog or something.
