Gameboy Collectors Site Questions

Post by Lorfarius » Wed Jul 06, 2011 10:03 am

As (I hope!) some of you are aware I run a NES site for the UK. It has a pretty big database, quite a large chunk of articles now plus 70 odd game reviews (far from the 300 or so total required but I'm getting there  ) and a forum. I have a goal in mind of completing the database eventually not to mention the full reviews list and I've been having a similar idea for another website.

I've been considering compiling a similar UK database of Gameboy games, hardware, accessories etc running down the same line of reviews, articles, pictures and a forum community. The idea being to compile it all into another collectors website, thing is I'm just wondering if there's much call for this? Would people find it useful and of interest? The site would be dedicated to the original GB, perhaps dipping it's toe into the world of the Color system. Effectively a sister site to NES-Bit.

I dedicate a hell of a lot of time to my NES site, in the last week alone I've spent 28 hours just scanning magazines  as well as knocking together the odd article/review. With a bit of forward planning I can see myself managing to squeeze in content for both sites and I'd aim to launch with around 50 game reviews for the GB site (like I did with NES-Bit). That in itself can take several months of hard writing but I'm crazy enough to put the time in and so I'd welcome any comments/thoughts.

Edit. And no it won't be called GameBoy-Bit

Lorfarius,

Well I think it's a great idea, if it's as good as your NES Site mate then go for it........the GB Mono could do with some decent coverage IMO

And watch it get confused in searches for G-Spot? Actually that's a damn good idea! Think of the traffic.

Since creating this thread I've been having a good look around the web and there isn't much UK coverage for the GB. I know there's a lot of multi format sites like Retro Fusion but I'm a big fan of single sites dedicated to single systems. Has anyone seen any decent GB sites they can recommend?

Biggest problem I can see right from the off is images for the database. I have a pretty extensive PAL A NES collection so it was pretty easy to use pictures of that to build the site. I'll admit the only GB I now have is a GB Micro with a flash cart loaded with naughty ROMs

It does sound like there's ground for the site and I've now got the experience of building them so I'll get my consideration cap on :)

As an aside does anyone have a decent sized list of UK GB and GB Color releases? I can at least start planning the launching articles/reviews around it then.

I've still got a lot of gameboy games and it was my first proper computer console/handheld as such (besides a Commodore 64 that was given to us) so I spent loads of time on it.

I'd be urged to contribute if it was required, could be a laugh!

Also threeaugustones and CC10gaming on YouTube are massive GB fans so im sure they'd be able to give you invaluable information as well..

I'd call the site Rab C
