There was a Days of Thunder game, wasn't there? So surely Cole Trickle!

Everytime I hear it I come over all Finbarr Saunders - FNARR!

Barry Burton (at least, when said in deep voiceover-man voice it sounds ridiculous).
Charlemagne Fotheringham-Grunes

Not a retro game, but pop singer 'Gwen Tweenbangle' in LEGO Universe is probably the best of a host of silly names.

The only one I can remember right now is from star ocean 4. The lead character was called Edge Maverick, but obviously he was an orphan nobody to start the game, who would have thought he'd go on to great things :)

The name 'Rottytops' from the Shantae games usually makes me chuckle. And Shantae's nemesis is called 'Risky Boots'.

Anybody remember Ghost Hunters (by the Oliver Twins/Codemasters) on the Speccy and Amstrad? Main character in that was named 'Chuck Studbuckle' as I recall

Originally known as Rick Norton and Douglas Bild in the Rushing Beat series, it was changed in the Western release. They're known as Jack Flack and Oozie Nelson in Rival Turf and was later renamed as Hack and Slash in Brawl Brothers.

Progear has some weird boss names. "Ballossum Pench" I think is the strangest.
As for the choice of names for the gunnners, I'm not touching that one with a barge-pole...

I also thought that Waluigi was the laziest possible name for the guy until I learned that "waru" means "bad" in Japanese, and since "L" and "R" sound very similar in Japanese, the name made a bit more sense.

Still crap, though.
It's called a MEGADRIVE

'Dagger' in Final Fantasy IX always seemed jarred. I'm sure there are better examples of names that just don't suit.

RE: Ax Battler, I always thought Gilius Thunderhead was worse.

Noob Saibot... compared to everyone else in the Mortal Kombat universe who had reasonably appropriate names, then you get this. It's a Mancomb Seepgood beater, without a doubt.

But then so was Herman Toothrot.
