A retro iPhone game I made

Post by raiz » Thu Jun 02, 2011 1:06 pm

I've been working on retro style game for iPhone called Wall Warrior, which has been out of a couple of months now. I discovered Retro Gamer a year or so ago and haven't missed an issue since. Can't believe I spent so long not knowing it existed. The mag has really inspired me and led me to start making a game in the style of Arkanoid and Breakout, which I used to really love as a kid. It's been a lot of work as I've been doing it on my own, in my spare time. I'm happy with how it turned out and hope one day to maybe work full time making small games. It's great fun to do and hopefully people will get some enjoyment out of it.

If any of you guys would like to check it out, here are some promo codes that you can redeem in iTunes to get a free copy:

F7E3AXMKHAMJ
H3J6FM7R4H4H
97ERXNLMKHWT
MNTJN9F37J43
74NX9NEARJNF
TE7PNX9LM4P4
7KTXLP6R3N6N
H9AAAH3MKXLF
XEYHXATAJK67
7KKFYPW3763P

I'd love to hear any feedback or other people's stories or experiences producing games themselves.

You can find Wall Warrior here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wall-war ... ?mt=8&ls=1

Thanks for reading,

Joe

I thought it would be rude not to try it, Joe!

I've used XEYHXATAJK67

Will post some feedback when I've had a good play of it.

Just had a quick 15 minutes on it and :

The sound effects and music are brilliant, the graphics are great, presentation is excellent and most of all the gameplay is phenomenal.

I have played many versions of this genre and I am possibly one of the worlds worst arkanoid players, but the wall behind you really adds another defence line for idiots like me. The ball physics with the bend facility is one of the best features and make you throw your Itouch around like my wife when she plays sonic the hedgehog....

Its really really good and thanks very much for the chance to play this.

Now going to see what else you have done.....

:D

Wow! Thanks for the great feedback. I'm really quite shocked, but in a very good way :)

Benny, Wall Warrior is the only one so far. I've started working on a new game, which is very different but still quite retro (along the lines of Worms meets Silly Putty hopefully). The tilt control was actually my wife's idea. I wasn't keen on the idea to begin with as I thought it would make the game too easy, but it really adds another dimension to the game play it seems.

Thanks again and I look forward to hearing your comments,

Joe

I don't think Apple let people leave reviews if they've used a promo code anymore. Thanks though rodarkone.

used 97ERXNLMKHWT.

First impression is good, I have certainly paid a couple of quick for games with a lot less polish. The tilt thing is a good concept although it can be abused a bit and makes the game a lot easier.

haha! I was just abusing the tilt (I also noticed you can turn this off so no big deal) and had the iphone on it's side to knock out all the ones at either side. I got the power up to increase speed and then it hit a block and the ball disappeared! I am now stuck on a level without a ball! I suppose I can't get killed now at least....

I have a screenshot if you want it posting (not of it vanishing, but of the screen with no ball)

Oh dear Scunny. I had that happen once before and thought the issue was solved. Can I ask what device you're using please? I will sort that out a push out an update. No need for the screenshot, thank you.
