It has huge and very inventive bosses.

It's a tough one, the md's visuals are smaller and a little grittier, but the bosses are censored mental. I think the snes does get it just, but it's close. As mart says, they are both fantastic games.

Honestly, neither. Both are essential 9/10 games.

Yeah, I would love to play the MD one to see for myself. Thing is, I don't have time these days to play current stuff let alone older titles. SNES Contra was one of my favourite games on the system and I didn't think the MD could produce anything in the same ball park as it at the time, so I might just make the effort one day. I have the Hardware and a 19" "old Skool" LCD which suits it well. How much is a copy of Hard Corps theses days then?

I paid £65 for mine. A pal copy is closer to £100.
My machine can't switch between HZ, so I'll take the cheaper superior version every time.

That's more than I would want to pay tbh  . I'll nip over to YouTube instead.

Edit: it looks excellent.

I had it about 10 years ago and if you want examples of how far the MD could be pushed close to the SNES then Gunstar Heroes and Contra Hard Corps are great examples. The chase towards you is a memorable one for starters. It may not have the smooth polish of a SNES game but it really went in b@lls deep to give you a contra experience to remember. Never got to finish it as it was too damn hard. still ace and wish I hadnt parted with it.

Anyone fancy recommending me some games for md? Into sensible soccer, micro machines, cannon fodder, racing and 2d platformers.

2d platformers? Shame the md doesn't have many of those ;-)

In seriousness there are loads, was playing Aladdin and earthworm Jim last night which are both still aces. But you've probably played them I guess.

The dear old md wasn't the best for that type of game. Better off downloading some old pc flight sims if that's an itch you need to scratch :)
