Post by TheNewMonkey » Thu May 12, 2011 4:00 pm

Coming to XBLA soon, Arcade-perfect ports of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, all with online multiplayer.
Not bad at 800 Points for the lot :D

Why would ANYONE want to buy that when they can get the new MK which is far superior to the originals? I mean, between the excellent (if not silly) story mode, arcade modes, online, challenge ladder, krypt...Seriously...I own MK2 and Ultimate MK3 for SNES, and I can't imagine going back to those now.

Have to agree with you there. The first one, for all its shlock, isn't a great game. MK2 is pretty good and probably the only one worth owning. MK3 is a pain in the ass to play. The AI is just brutal.

The new MK though... wow. They got it so right. Far more gory than the originals and the gameplay is probably better than MK2.

Yea i suppose if you haven't got the latest game then it could be fun, especially with online matches.

However ill be sticking with the excellent new game.

Does "arcade perfect" also mean "arcade difficulty so expect to be destroyed without mercy if you don't know the moves and combos off by heart?"

I'd have wanted these before the new MK was released. Now I doubt I'd really want to go back to them as the new MK has pretty much all the characters included in MK1-3, a better combat system and far more single player modes to keep me entertained.

Personally, I hope they bring it out as a retail release. Not interested in download only games anymore. :(

Very generous, but I wish it wasn't a deal wasted on Mortal Kombat!

Out of (related) interest, does anybody know how accurate to the arcade games the versions of MK 1/2/3 are on the Midway Arcade Treasures releases for PS2/Xbox?
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

I think MK2 at least was decent on Arcade Treasures 2. The sound/music sounded a bit muffled but the controls/gameplay felt perfectly accurate (and is still hard as hell!)

You think MK2's hard? Compared to #3, it's about as hard as blancmagne! And then they make MK4 a piece of piss.

This absolutely won't happen, but I'd be more interested if, for offline play, they let you pick which revision of the game to play (in other words, if they let you do the Ver. 2.1 Babality glitches in MKII). In any case, I'm guessing this is what happened to that Mortal Kombat HD Kollection thing.

ShadowMan basically nailed it, but in addition, you can no longer fight Smoke in MKII (you need to press start on the arcade machine as part of the code to fight him, and the collection doesn't let you do that). A minor thing, but worth noting. Also, the first MK isn't on the home console collections (MKII and 3 are in Midway Arcade Treasures 2- the first game was taken out because pre-orders of MK Deception included it as a bonus feature) but is instead on the PSP collection (which seems to suffer from slowdown and loading times).
