What's the most effective weapons in video games?

Post by thl » Sat Oct 21, 2006 6:23 pm

In some video games you're likely to start off with at least two weapons (or maybe without any). Whether it's a hand gun or a knife, it can be very vulnerable against the opponents/baddies even though it's weak.

At later stages, you get an opportunity to enhance the weapons (that you found) into an ultimate arsenal. The more weapons you get, the wider the options become. So what's been the most useful weapons?

To open this up, I'd say the nunchaku or chain, which can be found in the Master System version of Shinobi. You can get the baddies through an object, walls or few steps away, which prove to be very handy.

Also enhancing from the shuriken into a machine gun was brilliant!! :D

Blowing the heads off of Zombies and Spaniards in the Resident Evil series with a shotgun has been something of a delight.

Any spaceship/aircraft fitted with a swarming missile. I.e. A missile that launches 4 or more war-heads at once and automatically wastes a bunch of bad guys. Warhawk on the PS1. Colony Wars. Air Combat. All very gratifying.

Shotgun in any Resi game. It's just so... satisfying.

Anyone out there crazy enough to argue the case for the flame bomb in Ghouls 'n' Ghosts?

The shotgun did started off as my favourite weapon when I played Doom on the SNES. In later stages you get the chain gun, rocket launcher, plasma rifle, and the BFG 9000.

And also don't forget the chainsaw!! :o
