The puzzle game thread

Does exactly what it says on the tin - anything you have to say about any puzzler.

Start off with my top 10 in no particular order:
Tetris
Bust-A-Move/Puzzle Bobble
Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon
Zoop
Ballistic/Zuma/Puzzloop
Puyo Puyo/Mean Bean Machine
Baku Baku
Columns
Lemmings
Cleopatra Fortune

Super Puzzle Fighter II is a particular favourite of mine - superb game.

When you think you've got problems you don't really need,
They're maybe not as bad as they seem,
Cos in a world full of misery, with hatred and greed,
Your problems are another man's dream.

Tetris a puzzle game?

Personal favourites of mine are Chips Challenge on the Lynx & Drop7 on the iphone. Sunk a lot of hours worth of battery life into both of those. (if you consider Drop7 to be a puzzler of course! )

I sort of get where the article's coming from, but Pajitnov himself said his idea for Tetris came from a puzzle. So if he thinks it's a puzzle game, that'll do for me.

I am notoriously bad at puzzle games. I really don't like Tetris at all. I prefer puzzle games that have proper puzzles that need to be solved rather than endless waves of stuff that needs to be sorted as it drops down the screen or matched up Bejewelled stylee.

Games I've enjoyed in the past include Lemmings, Puzznic, Atomix and Kula World. That sort of stuff. Definite levels that need to be solved.

I don't mind a bit of Hexic and Lumines and suchlike but I definitely prefer the games where you've got a level to do and it's more about brainwork than quick reaction.

Edit: Forgot to mention Eets: Chowdown on XBLA. Now that's a great puzzler.

Biggest puzzle for me is seeing Crunchy at nearly 1000 posts on the RG forum :D

Does 'The Ball' on PC count? That to me is a damn fine puzzle game. And Lemmins (the remake of Lemmings on PC) is spot on.

How about Chime - love that.

oooh, Toki Tori - love that too

Love a bit of bust a move. Marble blast on XBLA is also brilliant
I asked for orange. It gave me lemon lime!

I love puzzle games!!!

One of the best machines for puzzlers is the Lynx, there really are so many great examples:

Tetris
Klax
Lemmings
Chip's Challenge
Pokermania
Loopz
Shanghai
Blockout
Ishido
Solotaire
Super Skweek
Dinolympics
Sokomania

And probably more I can't think of right now!

Yeah, they do tend to fit well on handhelds, even though 'I'll go on it for 15 minutes' turns into 'I've been on it for FOUR HOURS!', and handhelds are more about a gaming quick fix.

Never was a puzzle fan until Puzzle Quest & sunk more hours into that than I care to remember. Then came Bejeweled 2, Chuzzle, Big Top Ten & Drop 7 on iOS followed by Puzzle Quest 2 (unsurprisingly) & Puzzle Kingdoms (by the same people as Puzzle Quest).
