In my opinion, a killer-app is a game which made people buy the machine to play that particular game

Isn't it true that when Squaresoft decided to produce games exclusively
for Sony that Nintendo's shares fell?

PS - 1 go on Mario 64 in HMV made me go out and buy an N64

so for me,Mario 64 was definately a killer-app for me

The only other game that (almost) made me buy a console was Shadow Of The Colossus

Nothing yet on 360 has remotely interested me (but I do have quite a good PC set-up)

the only game that has made me spend good money on new hardware was magic carpet.

This is MY* killer app because I played it on a mates pc and then cracked open the savings account to spend a cool £1000 on a pc. Never before or since has a game affected me so profusely.

It still ranks in my top 5 games of all time.

Long live magic carpet, long live bullfrog, consoles are for loosers, in the mid-nineties the pc ruled. Long live the 486 etc etc.

pete

*my killer app not millions of other peoples, don't rage at me dudley!

Surely Twilight Princess is the Wii's killer app ?
Preowned Games - Buy games that other people are bored with.

I'd have said the controller and the price was the Wii's killer app.

A game you can play on gamecube?

Possible, but unlikely. The controller might just be if it captures people's imagination.

In all honesty, simple familiarity with the character is likely to mean Mario will struggle to ever be a killer app again in the true sense. For individual people that is of course a different matter.

Yes, much like at least one poster in this thread.
