What's your favourite music from any video game from the 16bit era and before?
Some of my favourites are Super Metroid and Castlevania 4 - some of the most atmospheric music score on the SNES in my opinion. Then there's always the good old "air platform" theme from Super Mario World - I've even been sad enough to try and learn how to play it on piano

Call me crazy, but I loved Ristar's soundtrack. Mega Drive sound processing deficiencies notwithstanding.

Wow, this will make me think. I have to say you could fit a multitude of Amiga titles in this category. The Lotus Turbo series comes to mind, particulary number 2. Cobra on the Spectrum & Zynaps on the CPC too.

The Golden Axe music is awesome IMO.
Also, both Amiga Gods and Leander tunes are very fitting whilst playing the titles, in a kind of Medievil-'em-up kind of way. Kind of.
Thoughts and prayers.

Super Probotector - the theme that plays when you fight the penultimate boss is simply awesome. A close second would be Super Metroid, with the Norfair Deathmarch being the highlight

Exolon - Amstrad/Speccy/C64 - In fact all Cecco's games had great tunes.
Barbarian (palace) - Amstrad - I actually prefer the Amstrad track to the C64 one.
Infestation - ST
Actraiser - Snes
Rock N Roll Racing - Snes
Shadowrun - Snes - probably my favourite game soundtrack of the 16 bit era.
Super Metroid - Snes
To name a few.

Me too, but the 3rd level. I like alot of the Music in Desert Fighter too and was going to link to youtube but there are NO gameplay videos

TBH Just about any SNES game invokes a whole lot of nostalgia for me.

Opening level to THE KILLING GAMESHOW on the megadrive, excellent. Also the intro music to M.U.S.H.A Aleste, megadrive, I have this as my current ring tone. Sad I know

Secret Of Mana had an excellent soundtrack.
And also....the SNES version of Mr Nutz. The game itself didn't set the world alight, but I still think it's one of the best and most atmospheric soundtracks I've ever heard.

Sig pic temporarily removed...The Magnificent 7 will ride again

The music in Gyruss always brings back memories - I love the fact they included it with Game Room.
Also 1942 on the C64 - included a rip off of the music from the movie, 633 Squadron.

Super Mario World is brilliant for me. It's one of the only game scores I'd listen to outside it's original context. So clever.
Megaman 2 has some cracking tunes, too.
