Yes Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, I'm talking to you!
Diddy Kong Racing had that even though it did have a very nice ending sequence.

ah but at least it was , in SoulReaver2.
The storyline that continues through the Bloodomen/L.O.K/S.R. games is fecking massive , and headache inducing:
Not really retro , but here it is (many many spoilers)

Apparently there is some end to the Gauntlet games:

GAUNTLET has 255 levels
GAUNTLET: THE DEEPER DUNGEONS has 512 levels
GAUNTLET II has 512 levels

although, when I was playing Gauntlet on my speccy the game crashed on level 250! DAMN

You actually survived all the way to that level? You must have more patience than a saint! Waiting for the levels to load was enough to put me off. At least it was better than the C64 version.

I thought Gauntlet 2 had an ending where you fought the dragon. Maybe it was just school yard myths.

That's a school yard myth!

In Gauntlet II you faced a dragon every 10 levels (not a very big one though) in the arcade version. This was kept intact in the 16-bit versions and above (so it was there on the Amiga & Atari ST versions) but the dragon was removed (along with the sampled speach) from the 8-bit versions (C64, Speccy & CPC)

Dodgy endings? How about...

Chess. You either get mated or you mate the other guy or its a draw. Where's the blood? Where's the spaceship taking off in the distance?

What a let down...

If it's violence you want - play Battle Chess instead

There's no ending for Shinobi on the Master System. After I beat the last boss, I came up with the screen saying 'Game Over'. It doesn't make any sense. :?

Far too many 8-bit games (not just Speccy/c64/cpc, but the NES and SMS too).

The end of Sonic Adventure (DC / GC) when Sonic has just defeated Perfect Chaos, and there is a part where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are standing on a bridge that has been destroyed, looking down at the Station Square that is almost completely destroyed and underwater, then Tails just suddenly says "All's well that ends well..."

How random was that?!

Spikey ;)

The very first Resident Evil. It's not the appalling acting that bothers me (It's pretty funny to be honest), but rather how all it basically is is just Chris, Jill and Rebecca/Barry looking knackered in what's supposedly a helicopter, nobody saying anything, and then they fly away as the Spencer Mansion explodes. No dialogue, no congratulations of any real sort, no nothing.

By the way, Claire's ending in RE2 had some truly awesome music.
