Best or funniest dialogue in games

Post by delbert_trout » Mon Dec 27, 2010 6:37 am

I'm still relatively new here so many apologies if a similar thread has been done before, but whenever I revisit Shining Force 2 to enjoy another playthrough this line usually gives me a good laugh near the beginning:

There's obviously loads more great lines (or funny mistranslations) that crop up particularly in adventure or RPG titles, let's hear some of the ones that've made you chuckle over the years :)

When you think you've got problems you don't really need,
They're maybe not as bad as they seem,
Cos in a world full of misery, with hatred and greed,
Your problems are another man's dream.

Listening to the Police calls in the latest Need For Speed games can present some humerous hilarity. Here are some i came across:

These two are from NFS Undercover.

Police 1:"I got kid down here stealing rubber products"
Police 2: "What kind of rubber products? Pencil erasers???"
Police 1: (Sigh), "Yeah..... he stealing erasers!!!! (Sigh again), Just get down here!!!"

Police 1: " I got a report of an old lady saying that
someone's in her yard... stealing her vegetables!"

So far, these are the funniest i've heard.

robotnik in sonic colours is quite funny.

"will the owner of the white rocket car shaped like an egg, please report to the security office. your vehicle has been broken into... wait, what???"

"can sonic please report to the security office as we have found you...keys! thats right we have found your keys!"

"welcome to aquatic park! all the wonders of the great ocean, trivialised for your amusement"

oh and the classic xmen arcade quote

"xmen! welcome to die!"
I write for...

Another favourite of mine is from Alundra on the Playstation:
"Why aren't I drinking today? ...Why don't you shut up before I get so angry I need a drink?"

Just about any Barry Burton quote in Resident Evil 1 PS1.

"You were almost a Jill (Jiggle?) Sandwich."

"It's a weapon! It's REALLY powerful. Especially against LIVING things!"

"Just take. a. look. AT. THIS!"

"WHOAAA. This hall is dangerous!" (Said after a few hours worth of gameplay and fighting zombies)

"Get away from him, Jill! He's INSANE!" (Referring to a clearly zombified monster)

Chaos Control - dialogue so painfully bad, I can't play it with a straight face.

Playing Half Life 2 on PC for the first time, all those years ago.

The incidental conversations that happened around you were just so immersive. Usually YOU were the complete and utter centre of attention in games, and here came one that "happened" around you. People talked to each other whether you were there or not.

This carried on to brilliant effect in both Oblivion and Fallout 3. Sometimes I'd just lurk about and listen to them talking amongst themselves. It really felt like I was actually right there.

Amazing.

I did this a little with Max Payne. They're scripted events, but the game often gave you the opportunity to hide behind a corner and listen to enemies chatting amongst themselves, not necessarily about you (although one had a line, "Any second now, Payne's gonna bust through that door, with murder in his eyes...")

As for me, anything and everything that comes out of the mouths of the soldiers in Earth Defence Force 2017 (360), such as "When this is all over, let's grab a bite to eat" in the middle of a battle, and screaming the name EDF over and over again. Oh, and their painfully drawn-out death rattles. The writing itself is drivel, but it's said with such over-the-top conviction that it automatically becomes funny. What's even better is that the voice samples will overlap in amusing ways, such as "The captain's been killed!" followed by "I killed him!"

Also: Dan's win-quote in Street Fighter Alpha 3, "I hate the art of fighting, but I wanna be the king of fighters!" Not very subtle, Capcom.

Plenty of amazing Persona 4 qoutes here. Being a teen drama it has a lot of smut and a smattering of homosexuality. Used white font as there are plenty I know still want to play it. Just copy over it. :)

Kanji: "He's... kinda cute. H-hey, do you think I could try touching him?"
Teddie: "Hands to yourself, mister!"
Kanji: "Don't give me lip, bear!"

"I think mine's cracked, too! C-Critical hit to the nads!"

Kanji: "I'M GONNA RENOVATE YOUR ASS!"

"Alright boys! TAKE ME!! And not a word of this to anyone!" -Ms. Kashiwaga
"AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!" -Teddie, Yoskue, Protagonist, Kanji.

I can't go swimming, I'm still stiff from last night.
-Kanji

*Teddie's been standing perfectly still for the duration of a conversation scene*
"...I Gotta pee."
*MC freaks out and starts pushing him somewhere with a bathroom*

Yosuke: "So, Kanji - do you think Teddie looks cute?"
Kanji: "Why are you asking me? Oh... I get it. What you're trying to say is: 'Kanji, will you please beat the **** out of me?'"

Teddie:Kanji!! So you were after my soft fur! But be gentle, it's my first time.

Dojima:What? Who built a shtep there?*drunk*
Adachi:That'd be the carpenters, sir!

I've got my lacey unmentionables stacked from top to bottom!
