OK, so Friday I finally bit the bullet, picked up Kinect, came with Kinect Adventures, and I picked up a copy of Kinect Sports.

After playing it for ten minutes, I was fuming with it, could not get it to pick me up (I had to put the sensor on a stool), was
starting to think I had wasted my money, after putting up a shelf for it, it's been spot on, so far this seems like an excellent piece of
kit.

I've since picked up Kinectimals for the kids, which seems decent enough, they enjoy it, and now I've just come home with
Fitness Evolved (or whatever it's called) for the mrs.

As far as party games go, this has killed the Wii, but when it comes to Zelda, Mario and the top exclusives, I'll always
have a place for the Wii.

I really wanted to get Fighters Uncaged, but all the reviews say it's awful.

So far so good lads, and yes this kit will be mostly used for family games.

I'm (probably) going to buy a Kinect (GOD IT'S AN AWFUL NAME!!!1!11!11 :x ) eventually as well. I did with the Wii Balance Board, and like that I know it'll be for specialist games, but that didn't stop the Balance Board being the most used peripheral in our house, ever.

As long as you buy it for a reason then I can't really see it being a problem.

Don't. Seriously.
The camera isn't at fault; it's the game. It can't keep you tracked at all, so it's barely playable. Stick with Punch Out! on Wii. 8)

I still think it's going to take an awful lot to convince the majority of people to fork out over £100 on a peripheral, plus extra money for games, that so far only offers the same kind of experiences as many party games on the Wii they probably already own, even if it does do it a bit better.

I honestly don't think anything on Kinect (or Move for that matter) offers the same kind of variety and longevity that Wii Sports Resort does. Yet.

Had a me sister in-law and her BF over for xmas, we all played on boxing day to work off that xmas dinner.
A quick show off became 3 hours worth of play! They had seen the TV ads and wanted to have ave a go.
So we went from 2 player joyride demo, onto some Kinect Adventures rafting, sister in law fancied a dance to Gaga so Dance Central went on and hilarity ensued in the freestyle mode, we ended with some Kinect Sports competitive crazyness and most of all fun was had, Kinect Sports cheekily records everything you do, then plays it back as highlight to music, yet again hilarious in company.
My sister in-law and her BF are non-gamers (they owned a Wii!) they left seriously impressed saying it's far better than the Wii.
If anything Nintendo has helped establish the motion control way of playing, now other companies are basically trying to copy or expand this idea, I feel Kinect does this very well indeed. It's the amazement of using your entire body to play that gets people every time, they seriously can't believe how it works and most at first are even dubious of it, play it and end up enjoying it.
Oh and moral of this story is the sis in law/bf traded in their Wii+Balance Board+Games, bought an Xbox 360/Kinect/Dance Central and Kinect Sports, job done

Bumpity bump.

Just reading back through some old topics, and bits and pieces I missed whilst my laptop was kaput during February.

So have people's opinions on Kinect changed at all? Anybody still got high hopes for it? Anybody see it as anything other than a party game device? Anybody excited about any upcoming Kinect games? Anybody still got theirs? Or traded it it? (I've noticed that a couple of people have mentioned doing that)

Seems to me like everything has gone very quiet on the Kinect front recently, on this forum at least. There's still nothing on it that's making me want to spend money on one, especially now the Christmas party season is long gone.

So, a flash in the pan then, or am I missing something and 2011 really is all about Kinect?

Microsoft announced on March 9th that they'd sold their ten millionth kinect worldwide. It's outselling Sony's Move by a big margin.
Latest NPD figures show the 360 has started outstripping the Wii in the USA because of it.

My mrs absolutely loves it. I still think it's pish.

The Gunstringer kinect game is creating a fair bit of buzz among journos.

Gamepad still in the lead by several parsecs as far as I'm concerned.

Back in 1990 I used to be excited about the SNES, I was 13. I hope the 13 year olds of 2011 are just as excited by Kinect and Move. That's the problem with a fledgling forms of entertainment, I can't think of any other audience that are so dismissive of change and advances than gamers.

I think the kids will be loving it. I've seen my nephew freaking out with excitement at games I consider old hat and generic. Makes you feel very old and jaded.

Kinect needs a decent game for me to bother with it. If Steel Battalion turns out to be several shades of awesome I'll be all over Kinect like a rash.

I'm not going to invest in new tech just for the hell of it though. It's got to give me something I want. The mrs likes Kinect so right now it's very much her thing rather than mine.

Well, it's obviously selling like hot cakes, so people are taking to it. As to whether it's actually any good... I still think the lack of fine control kills it. It's really no good at all for 'traditional' games, unlike the Wii and Move which retain analogue sticks and buttons alongside the motion controls.

For party games it will be fantastic (although it will be interesting to see if there are many decent ones - all the non-Nintendo developed party games on the Wii are crap), but the real value of Kinect won't become apparent until the next generation - by which time both Nintendo and Sony will have had an opportunity to refine their own motion control systems. If MS really wanted to revolutionise gaming (rather than just sell a shedload of units to curious girlfriends) then they should have left the system as it was when they unveiled it, rather than neutering it to keep costs low.

I reckon there will be a load of games announced for it at E3.

Child of Eden has got to be not far off now either.

Child Of Edens out in June i believe

Ive had mine a couple of weeks. Due to the ammount of games ive got to play it hasn't had that much use apart from Kinnect Adventures. Firstly ive had no problems with it picking me up or not being able to see me. Videochat though is another issue. Ive got three friends with Kinnect and it will not connect for video chat with any of them. Ill send them a request it can't connect. They send me a request it won't connect. Not sure whats going on with it but its a bit annoying.

Looking to the future apart from Child Of Eden i don't think we'll see anything brilliant till around Christmas time or maybe after.

I still have mine but Mario vs Donkey Kong Mini Land Mayhem, Bulletstorm, Tactics Ogre, Enda and Harvey, Gemini Rue, Dead Space 2+Severed, Deadly Premonition etc have all curbed the Kinect play, although I did buy a small tv clip for the unit to sit onto of TV so I am gearing up for the games at least. Thing about Kinect though is it does take some playing, sometimes I am not in the mood to jump around after a hard days work, just want to chill out in front of TV with new game.
Gunstringer looks ok and I love me some Twisted Pixel, they can do no wrong in my book.
They have just announed a XBLA version of Doodle Jump for Kinect, should be fun.
Child of Eden in June will be the big one :)
So on the horizon it's looking ok I feel. I do still have a LOT more to enjoy from Kinect Sports and Dance Central.

I'm still the same. I will buy it, but not this year. I can't see any hope for it being anything other than a party piece, but if I buy it for that exact purpose then it's a purchase that's justified.

Not really a flash (since MSoft's thrown so much money at it) but it's no "Big Thing" either. I don't see many people falling over themselves to create Tripe A content for example. Videochat looks swish though.

If that's true then it's certainly here to stay. Who'd have thought console addons would actually SELL?

In a way microsift were right about 2011 being all about kinnect.

January - People were talking about why there were no good games on kinnect
February - People were talking about why there were no good games on kinnect
March - People were talking about why there were no good games on kinnect
April - you get the idea :)

I'll probably buy one at some point though, it seems to have dropped in price to £105 online.
