A decade of N64

Post by DanielFullard » Fri Sep 29, 2006 8:42 am

I got my N64 a few months after it was launched and immediately after a session on Goldeneye (perhaps my favourite game of all time) I knew that I would love the console. The great games kept coming and my PS1 was totally neglected, as the company I had always loved best, Nintendo, had given us a great console.

I still play it to this day and still buy games for it although it’s down to a few hours a week now. Goldeneye, Zelda, Mario 64, Donkey Kong, PilotWings, Mario Kart, Turok 2, WWF No Mercy, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, Starfox….All games I loved and rank up alongside my favourite games of all time. And of course games like Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Tennis and Super Smash Bros kept me entertained for hours.

Infact some of the games are still genre beaters to me….

F1 World Gp – Best F1 game???
WWF No Mercy – Best Wrestling game??

So in all I loved and still love my 64.

Strange as i dont normally put the N64 down as a 'retro' machine but yeah its been 10 years now ! Cant believe how quick time has flown by !

Goldeneye was brilliant back then and still is now, great great game

People said it was better than it really was.

I cant stand Goldeneye either. Definantly overated. The graphics give me a headache. BLurry and muddy and I have to squint to see anything.

Yes but why do you think that?

As I've said before, I don't think Goldeneye has aged well at all, mainly due to the game engine itself. You can't deny it was cracking back in its day though, and this is coming from a person who will VERY rarely deviate from the PC to play an FPS.

Thats why I don't like it. I didn't play it in the day. I think the whole N64 console was overrated, the blurry graphics were shocking. Even putting the Saturn in the shade!

He asked you Why you thought it was overated, not to define what overating means

heh - pixely messy textures, but sharp and messy... get yourself a decent RGB cable!! And an import Saturn. And all the amazing games. You know it makes sense.
