Post 777 - DAYTONA! and other Sega racers
Nicking the hawk's idea of starting a 2600 thread on his 2600th post, noticing my next would be no.777 I thought I would use it to start a Daytona USA and other Sega racing games thread, as in Three Seven Speedway.
My best Daytona moment would have to be entering the cheat to play as the horse - seeing a nag race round an oval at 200mph is something that lives long in the memory!

The Daytona horse is utterly hilarious. Anything involving horses doing impossible things usually is, as evidenced by the stick horse GIF.

My best Daytona moment is just listening to the attract mode music. Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-doooo-dooooo, DAYTONAAAAAAAAAA! And all of a sudden, all you want to do is play Daytona

I regularly play the Daytona disc in my cd player, its pure 90's. Never tried the horse cheat though!

It was one of my Favorite games when I was little, used to play it all the time.

"ROLLLLING STAAAAAAAAAAAART!"
Love having the soundtrack on in the car. This was around the time Sega's soundtracks were at their best. Virtual On, Daytona, Sega Rally, Virtua Cop, House of the Dead, International Victory Goal, Virtua Fighter... it's the computer game music that you can actually listen to without playing a computer game. Awesome.
Didn't like the game, though. Except in something like this in Mr B's in Blackpool:

I first played Daytona USA at an Arcade when I was on Holiday in Devon!
I was about 14 at the time so it would have been 1995!
I really liked it!
I really liked the opening song as well!

My favourite bit was walking past it to the Ridge Racer Full Scale cab

Daytona is one of my all time favourite Sega arcade racers.
I can't believe anyone actually likes listening to Sega racing game soundtracks. They're the worst form of music known to man. Worse than lift music, worse than pan pipes. Worse, even, than Kenny G.
Mind you, they do make me laugh, so maybe not worse than Kenny G.

Re: Post 777 - DAYTONA! and other Sega racers
The only fun I had in Daytona (arcade, Trocadero) was getting the black car, then doing a U-Turn and racing the wrong way around the track. Since there are seven other racers going, you get all the time continues anyway, and if you can hit a few head-on, well, that's just terrible...
Multiplayer was the sole attraction on the SEGA racers from Virtua onwards. Namco always had them beat for a real feel of racing. It was only OutRun 2 that started being fun to drive again.

I liked Rad Mobile, for two reasons, one it's silly name & two because of the little Sonic the Hedgehog keychain.

I love the arcade version of Daytona but for me Sega Rally pales in comparison.
Splink!
Re: Post 777 - DAYTONA! and other Sega racers
Best Daytona bit for me was the moment I finally learned the Seaside Street Galaxy course off by heart and could, at last, compete with the AI cars on a setting other than 'easy'.
Thoughts and prayers.

When I was younger I copied it onto a cassette and used to listen to it on the way to school! Have it on my ipod now, makes the drive home more interesting!
have to say though that Daytona on the Saturn has not aged well at all. The pop up is atrocious, the collision system seems all wrong and the whole thing just seems unfinished. Put this side by side with Ridge Racer and it's no wonder so many people went for the Sony console.........

Re: Post 777 - DAYTONA! and other Sega racers
PS1 Ridge Racers and Wipeouts have aged well and are still great to play.
I tried Daytona on the Saturn at R3PLAy for the first time and as said above its not that great to play or look at at all.

And with CCE they improved the graphics and collision detection but messed with the handling so it didn't feel quite right.
