Gameboy Advance: NES Classics
Has anyone played these titles and rate them? I want to pick them up and wondered if they are good ports of the NES versions. I always wanted to play NES game portably and can't be bothered modding my PSP.

Re: Gameboy Advance: NES Classics
Funnily enough I completed the first Legend of Zelda a couple of days ago and really liked it. I personally find no problems at all with the port and found it quite easy to play on my DS.
I also have the second Zelda so will start playing that soon.

All of the NES Clasics ports are pretty spot on though I would skip metroid because it is an unlockable bonus in Metroid Zero Mission.

I'll swap my Nes Classics Zelda with you if you have anything you'd like to offer up to it
I dunno what it was about it, but it didn't really click with me on the GBA, and tbh I can't see me playing through it again anytime soon
It's a decent port of a genuine classic NES game though

They are spot on ports but woefully overpriced. They were on release!

Re: Gameboy Advance: NES Classics
They played fine but it was a bit cheeky to have to pay £15 a piece when they could have fit all of them on a single cart.
I got the original zelda one back when they were released and it was solid fun. I'd have felt more ripped off if I had bought Excitebike or one of the other 'quick blast' games

I got Pacman for £1 recently. I still don't think it was worth it :P

Re: Gameboy Advance: NES Classics
I will admit that they were overpriced with hindsight, but it didn't stop me buying three at the time

Re: Gameboy Advance: NES Classics
strangely, i don't own a single NES classic game, i must get round to finding a few.

Hindsight? They were overpriced when they announced them! I can even remember people complaining way back then.chewy wrote:I will admit that they were overpriced with hindsight, but it didn't stop me buying three at the time

Re: Gameboy Advance: NES Classics
I was blinded by the retro packaging and being able to play Mario on the bus I guess

Re: Gameboy Advance: NES Classics
I have the NES Classics version of Legend Of Zelda 1&2, principally because the NES versions change hands for £20 and the GBA versions cost me about 50p each. Having said that, I have subsequetly bought Zelda 2 for the NES.
They're both pretty good - certainly they're spot-on copies of the originals.

Re: Gameboy Advance: NES Classics
I remember when these first came out in Japan, and Official Nintendo Magazine made a bit of a fuss at the time because they had nice packaging with the original artwork on and such. When they were released over here though, they had pretty ugly packaging and the RRP prices were way too steep for what is essentially just an old NES rom on a GBA cart.
True. It even came out around the same time as Metroid Zero Mission making it a pretty much pointless release. I'd also argue that Super Mario Bros isn't worth it either as Super Mario Bros DX for the Game Boy Color has way more content, a challenge mode and The Lost Levels as an unlockable bonus...the only problem being that the the screen is a little 'zoomed in' on it so it's perhaps not quite as pure an experience as playing the original NES version.GigaPepsiMan wrote:I would skip metroid because it is an unlockable bonus in Metroid Zero Mission.
Sig pic temporarily removed...The Magnificent 7 will ride again
