New Sega Dreamcast Owner!!!

Post by Demonblaze » Mon Sep 25, 2006 6:36 pm

Just sold my copies of discworld 1 & 2 (psx versions) and used the money to buy a sega dreamcast with 2 official pads, 2 rumble packs, 1 vmu and 4 games. The games I got were (in order that I enjoy them) zombie revenge, soulfighter, evolution and metropolis street racer. Just wondering if you could list some games I should check out. I'm already planning to get shenmue (and the x-box version of the sequel) but I'm hopeing to find some decent games; shooters, adventure, horror, rpg etc. Many thanks.

Hey Demonblaze,

Definitely check out these titles.....

House of the Dead 2 (with a light gun, in fact get two)
Confidential mission (well if you just bought the guns)
Starlancer
Banjo Kazooie
Rez (unique)
Headhunter
Skies of Arcadia
Jet Set Radio

There's loads more that I can not think of at the mo.... But why get overloaded??? These would no doubt keep you well busy.

Except Banjo Kazooie isn't a DC game, its for N64.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica was a DC exclusive. Don't wste your money on Shenmue. Samba de Amigo offers more fun and is exclusive to DC.

Shen Mue always strikes me as a cross between Silent Hill without the fog and monsters and a 3d GTA game without the freedom. :?
The most fun I've had with my Dreamcast was with Soldier of Fortune. :D

Try these great games:

- Virtua Tennis (Sports, of course!)
- Grandia 2 (RPG)
- Alone in the Dark:The New Nightmare (Horror-Adventure)
- Sonic Adventure (Fast, VERY fast Jump'n'Run)
- Chu Chu Rocket (Puzzler on speed)
- Sega Swirl (Great 2p-puzzler)

And try to avoid these:

- Carrier
- Blue Stinger
- Super Runabout

Dynamite Cop
Stunt GP
Gunbird 2
Bangai-O

Are a few to add to the list of those already mentioned. Check out the Beats Of Rage games that can be found online as well, there's a few decent variations of that around.

Thanks I'll be checking those out. I already have the gamecube versions of skies of arcadia, ikaruga, sonic adventure 1 and 2, resident evil code veronica and the ps2 version of grandia 2. Have been playing evolution for a bit and it seems quite kiddy-ish, even worse than grandia 1 (although under the surface lay a great game that time) but I'll perservere for now. On another note how good was the arcade stick and how much should I look to pay for one? Thanks for all the help :D

I've bid on a few arcade sticks on e-bay but they usually go for 20 quid plus, there's a couple on there now going cheapish or they were when I looked.

Code Veronica came out on PS2 so it wasn't a DC exclusive..

For me the best Dreamcast games were Rez and the Powerstones, but I gotta say pretty much all the 'proper' Sega stuff was amazing. But that goes without saying...

Oh and Giga Wing and Mars Matrix if you like vertical shooters that are rather hard.

And one more thing - if you get arcade sticks ensure you pick up all the Capcom fighters except for crappy jojo's.

Streetfighter 3, Zero 3, Marvel vs Capcom - quality titles...

I personally thought it was a brilliant game.

If you happen to have an interest in the manga and anime (like me) then game compliments the existing 'Berserk' universe nicely. It's quite simple a title in terms of gameplay but is no less worthy than say, EA's Lord of the Rings titles, which have roughly the same degree of variety and similar visuals.

The graphics are good considering the age of the game and the music is excellent. Most of all I love the feeling of carnage when you get to work with the Dragon Slayer sword...cutting through hoards of baddies, watching them spin in the air in an arc of claret...gruesome, but lots of fun. I also liked the fact that the swinging the sword in confined spaces resulted in it clanging off the walls, meaning you had to think about where to position yourself before entering a combo.

Did you not like it, then? Shame.
