Despite it being a good game, not many people really play it, so you never really get to experience it as it was supposed to be played.

I've always preferred Real Bout Special to Mark of the Wolves when it comes to Fatal Fury - mainly for the character line up. MOTW is good but I've just never warmed to the character roster in the same way that I did with RBS.

Mark of the Wolves is vastly overated - where do people find this super-technical mega deep game? I find it pretty basic and lacking in moves. That's not to say it isn't a good game but it's just not as awe-inpsiring as the Neo fanboys like to think. I'd agree with Shadowman that Real Bout is superior in most respects.

Started this thread but still not put my choices down!!

In no particular order:

Soul Calibur 4 - The ultimate incarnation of SC for me I'm a huge fan of the series, there are balance issues with some characters but good players can work round this. There's so much fun to be had beating lumps out of online players that have cheesy character choices with so called inferior characters like Knightmare.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Talked about this one a lot for me it's such a well rounded fighter, a great character roster and loads to do in the home conversion (DC) spent far more time on this than Third Strike!!

Blazblue: Calamity Trigger Came from nowhere this one quite simply the best looking 2D fighter out there, really atmospheric music, huge story mode, and most importantly a great special move system that allows new players to compete with more experienced players and masters can find hidden depths. This really was the most impressive fighting game debut I've ever seen.

Darkstalkers Vampire Saviour Another series I love, this game takes the Darkstalkers formula shakes it up, turbo charges it, and makes it into an over the top combo-fest with brilliant results. The sprite animation is the nuts.

Tatsunoko Vs Capcom Quite easily my favourite game on the Wii, it looks amazing and you get a very real sense that every character plays differently. There are some really over the top supers, an eccletic cast of characters (I'm always impressed when you play as the huge Mech from Lost planet), and fun buy the bucket load. I think this is my favourite Capcom cross over just because you can play as Viewtiful Joe!!

Bubbling Under

Didn't quite make it but are brilliant: Turtles Tournament Fighters, Guilty Gear X, Rival Schools United By Fate, Marvel Vs Capcom 1+2, Garou, King of Fighters 95, Super Street Fighter 4 - Will be a top 5 I suspect but it's not quite there because I haven't played it as much as I'd like to, had great online battles with SpiffierRabbit.

It doest seem to get much love here at all.

Well I voted it my fave one on one fighter (one on one fighters is my fave genre) and over the years there have been so many great fighters so I had a lot to choose from. As others have mentioned there are deeper more technical fighters with larger and more varied character rosters but for me personally I enjoy this game the most.

Not really in any order, but...

Soul Calibur IV - The first Soul Calibur's one of my favourite games ever, and after two HORRIBLE sequels, along comes this to make everything better. Spent ages and ages playing it, and the character creation thing makes it even more fun.

Bushido Blade - A bit more tactical than most other fighting games, with the big arenas, one-hit kills and being careful not to do anything "dishonourable".

Rival Schools: United By Fate - Mostly for the team-up attacks, this game's hilarious.

Bloody Roar - Never played this with anyone who enjoys it, but I can't get enough of it myself.

Power Stone 2 - Mad arenas and stuff. Gourmand the Chef is the favourite character.

(Seems I don't really like 2D fighters, but the following are "alright" - Pit-Fighter, Guilty Gear X2, TMNT Tournament Fighters, Primal Rage)
