does sony hate its users ?

Post by snowkatt » Sat Sep 25, 2010 4:57 am

you really think they do because they castrate the ps 3 again and a bit more
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010 ... -audio.ars

the latest firmware update kills third party usb adapters
no doubt this is a measure against the recent usb hack and the controllers are just collatoral damage
but it really does look like sony is doing its best to censored its user base off
hey wait ! i got a new complaint !

The update has also killed off alot of MadCatz controllers, which are Officially licensed third party accessories

SONY are only protecting thier investments which is why they have taken the steps to disable 3rd party USB devices.

Wether they will be able to come up with a workaround for licensed third party USB controllers is another issue, but this is purely in response to the amount of devices that can be used now to jailbreak the PS3.

The latest devices that allow the Jailbreak code to be run are IPOD videos from 2nd to 5th generation using custom freely available MP3 firmware which replaces apples own firmware.

It's not going to get any better either, and everyone who is bitching about losing functionality, me included, can thank the hackers for that!

I've literally just sold my SF4 controller to some chap in Finland before I read that. I wonder if it still works...

Oh dear, I am so glad I read this because today was the day I was about to bid on a ps2 to PS3 USB convertor - granted, it was only a few pounds but...

Not only was that a bad thing to come from 3.50, but PSN was down for damn near a day, but only on Phat apparently - hmm, me wonders if Sony are trying to force us into a 'forced' hardware upgrade...?

Yeah it's disabled Saturn USB support too so because of that I haven't actually upgraded to 3.50 just yet. From what I've been reading about it, it's intentional and an overkill method to stop the PSGroove. Thanks Sony, that's a great way to treat your legit user base.

Yet many people (the type who are up Sony's love passage) are saying the blame lies with the pirates and these 3rd party companies for not getting their controllers licensed through Sony, but ultimately it's Sony's bastard fault in my eyes as they didn't have to disable it, they knew full well what would happen. It sucks.

@C=Style, the love hole fans have a point you know

Anyway, I don't think Sony hate's it's users but I do think they're quite disconnected when it comes to knowing what they want. That said, out of the big 3 I'd still say they were the best for fan interaction (their Facebook is really good)

They have no point, not in my eyes. I think scrapping features from a console we own is the last resort, that's borderline criminal imo and no worse than what hackers have done. First it was OtherOS, now 3rd part USB support, and rumours of locked HDD's are all around the net. Sony only care about their investments, not the fans that is blatantly obvious. I'm not saying a company shouldn't protect itself, but not at the expense of the legit users. No way in hell.

Plus the fact they done this without any warning, feel sorry for the poor lemmings who updated not knowing what it would do, now they're stuck with it. It's wrong I tell you.

I've got to raise my hand, I am a lemming then...

I wanted to play MW2 online with a few mates the other night and had no CHOICE but to update the firmware - it would not let me play unless I took the update (up the proverbial so it seems)...

The HD rumour worries me, and it worries me a LOT - i've currently only got the original 60gb Phat release, and was looking at throwing a 250gb drive in - being brutally honest, I use more as a media player than a games machine... I copy the files from a USB drive over to the HD, hence the need for more space... but this also makes me worry that they make take it a step further and disallow the access of usb drives as well... where will it end - you can only play a game once a team on Sony 'specialists' have been round to inspect your console and game...??? (being sarcastic, but the console industry seems to becoming it's own 'Big Brother' state!)

Well it's not your fault is it. Sony forced your hand.

Even the Matcatz SF sticks are reported as not working now, how pissed would you be? I know my brother is going to be when he wants to play SF4. He only spent £150 on it ffs. Sony deserve everything that's coming to them.

Excuse the French but Sony are fooking Bastards!! I updated the firmware as I don't really care about playing pirated games that would take forever to downnload and have to buy Duel Layer disks to burn.. But I've been watching films on the PS3 through the USB so now I'm forced to burn them, I'm going to swap it for a Halo X Box I think..

You can't even get online without installing the update first
