Horace in the Mystic Woods Spectrum conversion released

Post by Alarm » Fri Sep 24, 2010 8:17 am

Bob Smith has ported Michael Ware's Psion 3 game Horace in the Mystic Woods to the Speccy.

It's a great port!

And it is a stunner.

If this does not get a RG Smash then the world's gone doolallytap! :D

Ahem... i'll be the judge of that thankyouverymuch - and right now i'm marking all Spectrum games down by 10% because the fanboys are getting antsy in the off topic part of the message board! (Just kidding, i haven't had a proper look yet so don't know how it plays as such, but it just missed getting a news item in RG83 by a couple of days so will be reviewed in RG84... of course it was designed by a former C64 developer so it's bound to be good! =-)

I look forward to seeing the review. What with this month's Julian Gollop stuff it looks like I might become a regular reader again!

It's really good, enjoying this so far. But I'm already a fan of Bob's games anyway, been playing his Farmer Jack ones for a while now.

It's pretty good. My first impression was "it's Manic Miner but with bloody annoying inertia. And why is Horace white?" but after a few games and advancing through a few levels it changed to "Actually, this is only superficially like Manic Miner really because the inertia makes it play very differently as do the extra features. But why is Horace white?". It's a great conversion and looks and sounds good, nice to see the last official Horace title finally make it to his home platform.

He's supposed to be blue, mind. Just saying.

On WoS there is much debate about Horace's colour - it changes in skiing an in spiders!

And the game is so good, I'll forgive Bobs anything!

Horace is now available in all colours from Bob's site.

And he comes with two jumping styles now.

What more could you want? :P

I can remember finding out about the existence of this game in the RG with Donkey Kong on the cover.

Although I never really liked any of the Horace games, he is a total Speccy icon & It's amazing that someone's actually gone to the trouble of converting it to the Speccy where he belongs, hats off to 'em.

I FINALLY got round to downloading this tonight & it's awesome & would recommend anyone with even a vague interest in the rubber keyed marvel to download it & have a crack at it. :D
