Favourite Japanese Developer?

Post by Vanderkaum » Sun Sep 19, 2010 6:51 pm

I only chose those that have or had multiple franchises going. Sorry if I forgot an important one.

I myself can't really decide, which is part of the reason I enabled 2 votes per member. Right now, my votes would go to Capcom and Namco. Too many classic games...

Looking forward to a nice thread.

Well there's not much life left in any of them, with the Japanese game industry being in the sorry state it's in. But still, I continue to hold a candle for Namco. So many great games. Capcom, however, are a developer I've never got on with. Their logo actually puts me off buying a game these days.

From you list I'll got with Konami and Atlus. But my favourite devs are actually Vanillaware, From Software and Treasure.

I chose Sega and Hudson, Konami are nice too - if the choice was there, I'd've gone with Telenet (creators of such games as Granada, El Viento, Earnest Evans, Sol-Feace, the Valis series and Road Avenger).

Added Treasure (replacing Human Entertainment, due to the 10 choice limitation) and SQUARE. How could I forget?

EDIT: It appears that the cast votes vanished when I added more options. Sorry about that.

From a retro standpoint, definately SNK and Sega due to their phenomenal arcade output throughout the late 80's and early 90's. The majority of which I thoroughly enjoy looking back through and playing. I would probably side with Nintendo and Capcom these days though in terms of sheer playability.

I went with Nintendo and Konami....Nintendo for obvious reasons (well, reasons that are obvious to a Nintendo fanboy  ) and Konami because I'm a big Castlevania and Mystical Ninja fan, also love a lot of their old arcade games :)

I've got (and like) plenty of games by all the developers on that list though.

In any case, the game I'm playing right now's developer seems to be Ninja Studio, so I guess I like that. Other than that, IntSys and Blizzard have made some of my favourite games.
Hmm... well the title asks for favourite Japanese developers. Besides what's the single Western company you're talking about? All of them are Japanese.

They were just a spambot failing at fitting in, don't mind 'em. ;)

If that was a spambot i'm seriously impressed, it must've achieved sentience! =-)

i voted Konami because they were behind some of my all-time favourite coin-ops such as the Gradius series (as well as some remarkable MSX conversions) and Treasure becase... well, Ikaruga and Gradius V for starters and if i drool any more about the XBLA release of Radiant Silvergun i'm likely to short out my keyboard.

Its got to be Capcom for me - mainly for the Megaman, Street Fighter and Vs games.

I voted Capcom and Konami, simply -

Capcom - Resident Evil, probably my favourite 'action adventure' game

Konami - Pretty much before PS2 they put out some really interesting games, and well seemed to be at their peak more around 1990 time. So my vote really is for "Older Konami"

Shame Taito aren't included, unless they're not japanese
