Just doing a bit of independent research and am interested in what everybody's top 3 point-and-click/adventure games are, preferably ranked. I'll start...

1. Shadowgate

2. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

I like threads like this too but it doesn't change the fact that I find it hard to decide!

I'm going for;

Blade Runner (PC)
Image

Maniac Mansion (c64)
Image

Beneath a Steel Sky (PC, now iPhone)

Give me a week or two to play Monkey Island 2 on the iPhone and I may have to edit my choices!

 That would be my answer. I get so frustrated with adventure games be they text based, point & click or whatever, my brain just isn't wired up correctly to solve the puzzles.

HOWEVER, I downloaded Monkey Island 2 for 59p yesterday & I've played about half an hour & I'm really enjoying it. I just know as soon as I actually have something to do I'll get stuck & give up though! The humour in it is brilliant & I did watch the Mrs play through the entire game of that one that was on the PS2 & enjoyed watching it.

So I guess they're my 2 favourites.

Hmm, good point. I loved Monkey Island 1 & 2, but they're hard as hell, so they're not in my top 5.

1. Secret of Monkey Island: Lechucks Revenge.
2. Day Of The Tentacle
3. Secret Of Monkey Island

Runner up goes to a DOS game called Peppers Adventures In Time. It has a SCUMM-like interface and has you going back in time to the 1700's to stop your uncle from re-writing history. You have to stop an evil hippie Ben Franklin and more. It's an education game at heart but it's funny and fun. It's also abandonware so feel free to give it a try.

Number 1, BASS:

Here's my review from Retrogamer.net:
The introduction is cool, the music imposing and the artwork, created by acclaimed comic book artist Dave Gibbons, is stunning. It's a British made science fiction point and click adventure set in a post apocalyptic setting. All told, what's not to like about Beneath a Steel Sky?

This is one of my all time favourite games on any format. It proved that the Americans (LucasArts) were not the only ones capable of crafting a great adventure.

The game is set in a future Australia and you take control of Robert Foster, a man who survived a plane crash, grew up in the gap (the Australian outback) and who is named after a beer. An evil computer that runs Union City named LINC sends some agents out into the wilderness to bring you back to the city, but as you are being transported the helicopter crashes and you find yourself in Union City with no ID and no hope, all you have is your pet robot named Joey.

Despite its dark setting this game is classic British farce and oozes grace. The dialogue is witty and the story compelling. If I could pay someone to erase the game from my mind, I would do it just to experience it for the first time all over again!

Please Revolution, make a sequel.

Be vigilant.
Number 2, Broken Sword:

I'm a big Revolution fan. I recently recompleted this on the iphone and it's still brilliant.

Number 3, Hotel Dusk:

A suprise entry at number 3, but this is my fave DS game and probably my favourite game of the last 5 years! Not a 'classic' point and click, but has all the hallmarks of a great adventure/puzzle game and the DS interface suits it perfectly. Love it.

I really love point and click games.

Mine would probably be:

1 Blade Runner
2 Star Trek TNG a Final Unity
3 Beneath a Steel Sky

Struggled to get that list really. All of the Trek ones are great, and the lucasarts ones i've played have been great, but I was never the biggest fan of the genre. In fact I only included BASS due to the iphone app - have downloaded Monkey Island 2 though, so things might change when I play that.

And I forgot about Toonstruck!
