New EDF game coming next year.

Post by nakamura » Sat Sep 04, 2010 1:41 pm

Well there are a few EDF fans on here so it may interest them. There is a new gaming coming next year but no real details yet.

http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/showthread.php?t=105419 is where my info came from. I have yet to play the series but it does look rather fun.

Not played EDF 2017 as no Xbox 360

But anything is good

Sandlot not being involved is a worry though :(

Yes. I absolutely adore the EDF games! All I'd really need from another sequel is for Sandlot to put the stuff they cut from the 360 game back in (the Pale Wing, several enemy types, the Floating City and a few other things) and I'm so-

Aw, nuts. Not a good sign. Is that totally confirmed though?

Incidentally, the game's title is apparently Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon if this is the game's actual website.

I recently bought EDF on the 360 after hearing so many good things about it, but sadly it still remains on my shelf unplayed. :?

This is some wonderful news! I thought everyone had forgotten about it as it's a pretty niche series. Looking forward to it.

Sandlot not being involved isn't necessarily a bad thing, so long as the concept and gameplay remain more or less the same.

My biggest worry is if whoever's doing it now decides to overcomplicate things with online multiplayer deathmatch modes and whatnot. The original games work so well because at their heart, they're just simple arcade blasters, just presented in a very entertaining way. As Tepid Snake says, all that's needed is the return of the missing stuff from the PS2 sequel, maybe an online co-op mode (I really hope they don't shoehorn a 'vs' mode in just for the sake of it) and it could be something special.

It's about time we got a new EDF game, it really does need some online co-op though.

EDF returns in Spring 2011, Vicious Cycle developing

Vicious Cycle are the same people behind the Matt Hazard games. Regardless, the screenshots confirm the jet-pack character is back in. Trailer looks promising, although I hope the game doesn't take itself too seriously. Cautiously optimistic at the mo'.

Time for a long-overdue bump. First off, there was a preview of Insect Armageddon here which gives more details on the game. Since this article was published, local split-screen co-op has been confirmed. Still cautiously optimistic- the fact that there's four different character types sounds interesting.

Also, three new EDF titles have been announced (although no word if Sandlot is involved with any of them) including a mobile phone game, a PSP port of Global Defence Force (yesssssss) and, confusingly, Earth Defence Force 4 which outright says that Insect Armageddon isn't the real EDF4. No confirmed console for that last one, though, just a logo at the very end of the linked video.

Online co-op makes it a definite buy for me, hopefully though it'll still be in the spirit of the previous games.
