Try doing Schaefer's dashing attack (left or right plus jump) in Capcom's Alien vs. Predator: it sure sounds like he's saying something quite rude.

I actually hate the way all Japanese fighers have to shout out the name of their moves as they're doing them. It's OLD!

I don't watch Spaghetti Westerns and hear Clint Eastwood shouting "BULLET SHOT!! Mega Gunshot EXPLOSION!!" every time he fires his pistol, so why are we still hearing it in games developed in 2010?

Surely that Japanese trope deserves its final, long-needed rest?

I'm sorry, but another SFII one:
Ken - "Well, that's a squirrel kick!" - I still say it when he does!

And not misheard but still funny - "Wise fwom your gwave!"

Playing F-Zero GX i swear it says 'Retarded' when you fall off the screen. The words say retired mind but i think that is lying.

It's like the game is taking the p1ss out of you for not being good enough to stay on the track

To this day, I still think Mario is saying "Pickle!" when you enter a level in Mario 64.

Yeah he's definitely saying Pickle!
The square is a great shape, and one that is criminally underused in modern game design. In the push to ever more granular, chaotic environments, games have lost sight of the simple pleasures of right angles and straight lines.

I know exactly what you're talking about. That commentator is a legend!
Totally. Wonder who he was and what Konami did with him afterwards as he should've got a job on the telly. We got the utterly boring Tony Gubba following that.

There was something that the Chinese troops used to say in Battlefield 2, I think when an enemy soldier was spotted ... We'd heard it as "Five cents for four beans".

Not mis-heard, as such, but due to the poor sample rate used in the SNES Street Fighter 2 games, we always used to pronounce the country names as:

- UFFFR
- UFA

A few move calls by the characters also got changed to:

- Fonic Boom
- Figer
- Figer Uppercut

One thing we could never work out was on Ocean's Beach Volley on the Amiga. If you leave the title screen you get a few cartoon pictures explaining why you were taking part in the event. In one of the pictures you're shown a contract, and to my mates and I it sounded like the bloke said "Here's your contract refree". We never did find out what the weird word of "refree" was actually meant to be.

Staying on an Amiga related note, and on the Turrican games when you picked up one item it would go "Shrealm". I think it was meant to be "surround".

Happy days.

I'm not sure if this is misheard or not, as i never figured out what he was actually saying, but it sounds to me that the commentator on Mortal Kombat says "Walkies" after a decent uppercut. I used to then say it out loud too and my dog would always come running into my room wagging its tail in false hope - how torturous of me!
