Wrestling games

Post by thl » Sat Sep 02, 2006 6:54 am

The very first wrestling game that I played was Pro Wrestling on the Master System. It's one of those games that I found so amusing due to the graphic being too cartoonish and comical.

You can only choose four tag teams in this game. Moves are simple. Punch, kick, Irish Whip, jumping off the top rope, and bouncing off the ring. Plus it included special moves such as sumission, knee drop, neckbreaker, clothesline, etc. Steel chair was also included as additional weapon, which can only be use outside the ring.

Overall, it does earn its mark into the gaming history, only to be outsold by the World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment.

WWF Superstar 2 on the Gameboy was a bit tedious. Finishing moves wasn't included.

Fire Pro Wrestling D on the Dreamcast was very good but increadibly difficult. Also had ace match options such a barbed wire boards and light tube matches, plus the classic Electrified Barbed Wire exploding steel cage match.

Smackdown series are the best though as the gameplay and choice of matches are all excellent.

Royal Rumble on the SNES for me, I paid £60 for it when it first came out and my friends and I played it for hours.

Now I hate wrestling with a passion....

I loved Rock n Wrestle on the C64 (although not physically obviously, that's just wrong).

It was all a bit hit and miss though, if you excuse the pun, some of the moves kinda just happened without me really knowing why.

WWF Royal Rumble on the SNES was hilarious. The movement of the wrestlers made me felt like they're dancing. Also the strangling move does impersonate Homer and Bart.

Amiga did released WWF European Rampage Tour, but due to mediocre progamming it could've been better. :(

I loved Wrestlemania by Ocean on the C64. I played it again recently though and it's absolutely terrible! I wish I'd not bothered and just stuck to the happy memory.
