You can have a nice large number, but that number is meaningless when you get to the old "Same character only a bit changed" type.
Ryu
Evil Ryu
Street fighter 3 Ryu
Afro Ryu
Not had a wash Ryu
White bandanna Ryu
Ken Ryu

I have mixed feelings about the roster size - in a way, I'd like a large number, but it does tend to make it hard to produce a well balanced game. Not being a hardcore gamer any more, I also struggle with large rosters because too many opponents are just 'unknown' to me. I guess another good thing about there being one game coming from Namco and one from Capcom is that there isn't the same pressure to cram every imaginable character into one game. AFAIK, we have 18 already, for me, 40 is about the most I could handle, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a few more as post release DLC (these might end up being the likes of Naughty Ryu, Malibu Ken, Overfriendly Kazuya etc)

I have no real idea about who the bosses might be though - I think I'd like to keep it traditional and have Heihachi from Tekken and Bison from SF. I dont mind so long as the Tekken boss isnt some stupid giant chicken.

It's an interesting marketing plan to drip feed the character announcements, generating a little buzz each time, despite the game being a fair way from release. I'm quite enjoying seeing each character get their own little showcase too.

Don't Soul Calibur games have their own 'Project Soul' team though?

In any case, I can't wait for their version either. I'm not sure how the simpler designs of characters like Ryu will look against really intricately designed characters like Yoshimitsu etc but I can't wait to find out. While I love Street Fighter and Capcom fighters more than Namco's in general, I slightly prefer Tekken's juggling and awesome combo possibilities.

But back to SF X Tekken...where is Paul Phoenix?!? Needs more "OOOOOAAAARRGHH!!! and power punching.

Leeked roster?

http://nerdemic.com/sfxtrosterleaked
STREET FIGHTER:

Ryu / Ken Masters

Chun Li / Cammy White

Guile / Abel

Dhalsim / Sagat

Hugo Andore / Poison

Cody / Guy

Sodom / Rolento

Ibuki / Makoto

Zangief / Rainbow Mika

Sakura Kasugano / Kanzuki Karin

M. Bison / Juri Han

Secret Character: Evil Ryu or Akuma.

TEKKEN:

Kazuya Mishima / Nina Williams

King / Craig Marduk

Julia Chang / Bob

Hwoarang / Steve Fox

Yoshimitsu / Raven

Jin Kazama / Ling Xiaoyu

Bryan Fury / Jack

Lars Alexandersson / Alisa Boskonovitch

Paul Phoenix / Law (So far not sure if it’s Forrest or Marshall)

Asuka Kazama / Emilie de Rochefort

Heihachi Mishima / Kuma

Secret Character: Devil Kazuya or Devil Jin

Unfortunately, both Dan Hibiki and Anna Williams have been confirmed by Yoshinori Ono to NOT be in the game. However, Capcom is infmamous for DLC, so who can say for sure that Dan the Man is really pushing up daisies? He’s in the debut trailer, dangit!
Sagat and Dalsium?
Why not Sagat and Adon?

Part of me hopes that list is true, if only to get a few non SFIV characters in the mix (R Mika, Karin, Rolento etc.).

I still want Capcom to make Capcom vs SNK 3.
With some respect shown to the SNK fighters and fueds that make sense (Ryu and Kyo? There nothing a like)

There's rumours that this (and maybe SSFIV Arcade Ed) is heading to 3DS. I'm not too interested as I'm not really into Tekken but it would but it would be good for those that are.

That's a bit of an underwhelming list tbh. Are the characters locked to those pairs? Some of them make no sense. There's not that many to choose from either. Considering the game isn't out until 2012, I was hoping for a far bigger roster.

It will probably be for tag team moves.
Al la Ryu and Kens super fireball in Xmen vs Street fighter. There will probably be a mix up option.

Hugo and Zangief would be a better team up

Coming soon

Well I'd be glad to see R.Mika again but I just know that there will be a re-release months down the line with a few more characters included.

Oh for the days of CvSNK2 when a game with a massive roster was released then just left alone. I know they had the luxury of ripping old sprites across back then but still...

Id still love for a 2D one akin to SNKs recent ones.

Or SNK to do a new Last Blade

HD sprites.
