Final Fight vs. Streets of Rage

Post by thl » Thu Aug 31, 2006 10:39 am

It's been a while that I haven't played those sort of games but I suggested to see two games of its genre going head to head. I want to start off with Final Fight vs. Streets of Rage. Both games would share its comparison through graphics, gameplay, and lifespan.

Well for me, I'll go for Final Fight because it's very successful through the highly detailed scenery, the accuracy of the timing and movements, and of course the game had broke new ground in the gaming industry, which considered to be very significant.

(Note: While looking up this game on Wikipedia, it was rumoured that the title was suppose to be release as Street Fighter '89, but that was saved and used in later games.)

Streets of Rage gets it, simply because SOR2 is one of the best games of all time in terms of playability and presentation. It also boasts one of my favourite soundtracks.

I didn't like Final Fight a lot, and you can compare it to pretty much any of Capcom's carbon-copy series of fighting games (Captain Commando, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Knights of the Round, etc.)

Final Fight to me always feels a lot more solid than the other scroller's that seem to use the same engine. Streets of rage I prefer as a series but as a straight forward game i'd have to go with Final Fight, graphics still pretty much hold up today.

I like to point out what Sureshot said about the game sountracks because I thought Yuzo Koshiro (the composer of SORII) done a really good job. He composed the tunes for other top selling titles such as Revenge of Shinobi, Actraiser, and Ys.

Never played Streets of Rage so it's got to be the Fighting that was Final.

There is no way I can vote for one of these fantastic games over the other one so I will have to say I'll pick them both as a tag team and wipe the floor with every other scrolling beat 'em up that has ever been made.

Final Fight versus SoR1... I thin k FF just edges it.

All other side-scrolling beat 'em ups versus SoR 2? SoR 2 every single time :)

Bah you guys have obviously never played River City Ransom before have you?

Anyways out of those two games, Final Fight, mainly because it had more direction and some of the levels were just classics like the train and elevator levels, brillant!

Philistine!

Streets of Rage for me. I played Final Fight on the Snes when it first came out, but it never really did it for me. I gave it another chance on Mame and again on the recent Capcom collection, but it still isn't that great.

SOR on the other hand had my friends and I enthralled for hours, beating each other as much as the many henchmen/women. That and the soundtracks as already stated.
