Guess the game : Ultimate challenge

Post by Haggler » Fri Jul 16, 2010 6:39 am

I appreciate i'm new here and most of the forum probably don't know me as yet, i'm not trying to leap in the deep end here or jump on anyones toes, but i got a few days off and i'm not intending working for all of them which gives me chance to test out an idea i've had for a good while now.

Not to be confused with FatTrucker's Screenshot challenge, i'm bringing this thread to Retro gamer's forums, it's a couple of years old in this form (have ran it on other forums) but i have plans to expand it to become an inter forum game maybe in the future.

For now i'll test it here like i have elsewhere and see what sort of response it gets, the more people who post the better and the greater chance of it evolving into an inter forum challenge sometime in the future, i'm warning you though some peeps on other forums are a bit good and have had plenty of practice.

The game

Ok just for fun i decided to open this thread, the idea is simple, the implementation not so, but this is how it works for now.

Someone thinks of a game, any game from say the last 25 yrs, we have to give a few clues to point people in the right direction of said game, whoever guesses correctly (and in the event of a few posting the correct answer obviously first correct reply) gets their username added to the scoreboard which is to be edited into the first post.

Afterwards someone else can try and i'll keep tabs on the scoreboard, sound like fun? probably not but it's something different and hopefully will get more people involved.

I'll kick it off with a nice simple one and whoever can think of a game and a few clues first after the correct answer is posted can start off the next one, obviously there will be a need to verify correct answers and maybe verify the incorrect ones too after a few of those are posted.

Rules (rigorously enforced) :-

01) If the correct answer is given please don't complain about the results.

02) Keep all game choices to english or Us titles only and make sure the game is correctly titled.

03) If after a correct guess you chose the game to be guessed, please make sure you'll be around within the next few hours (sleep allowed ) to verify a correct answer or maybe verify a few wrong ones too.

04) One guess per post (at each individual clue) and no further guesses until someone else has posted, all clues are worth 1 point unless otherwise stated.

05) Multiple clues can be running at the same time, this will keep the thread ticking over regardless of verfication by op, they must be numbered as clue 1, clue 2 etc both in op and responses to avoid confusion.

06) After a few incorrect responses or four or five hours (whichever is sooner) can the original clue poster maybe try editing their post with a further clue.

07) Mark all new clues and correct responses by using red text that way they'll be easy to find and we can kick off another.

08) Clue posters must state which company's machine they played the game on (If it's not a picture clue) along with the clue.

09) In timed challenge mode points may differ, these will be clearly stated beforehand.

Clue 1 (A really easy one)

A jolly giant from a tin is suitably capped (Commodore amongst others)

Clue 2 (Medium)

Devoid of two seasons these games included a north american state and encompassed the globe but only spawned one true sequel.(Commodore computer)

Clue 3 (Harder) (Remember google is your friend)

Thoughts of steel balls whilst sleeping brought us a trilogy, the answer lies in the third, a cd conversion, a previously missing forth and the inclusion of lost in the middle. (Commodore)

Clue 4 (Catchphrase style so say what you see, two games are hidden here)

Clue 5 (Doctored image)

So is that six different games? The scrambled picture thing is Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars or something, but I don't see what that has to do with coat hangers or Commodores...

The catchphrase one: are the two games Cliffhanger and Wings?
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

It's 6 different clues each worth a single point apart from clue 4 which is worth 2 points if you can get both picture clues, i only posted them together in order to give peeps something to go at whilst i was away.

Correct for 1 point
TwoHeadedBoy wrote: but I don't see what that has to do with coat hangers or Commodores...
It didn't those are separate clues, the commodore thing was only to whittle down the system and therefore the searching.
Megamixer wrote:The catchphrase one: are the two games Cliffhanger and Wings?
One of those is correct for 1 point but you can't have it unless you get both. :D

Just leaves clues 1,2,3,4,5 then
