Idea for magazine
Who would be interested in seeing the occasional game in the magazine from these systems?
Re: Idea for magazine
Yes. I see them as retro, they've basically stopped production, game shops are trying to get rid of them and you can pick them up for a couple of quid at a bootfair. It's time to accept them in the "retro section".

Re: Idea for magazine
no m8, I feel if they are included, it would begin to start to become a modern / early 2000 feature, I don't think it would suit the orginal content that is there now, maybe in about 5 yrs from now ..yes, Retro Gamer is about reto gaming, althought, some would feel that the xbox 1 & ps2 or gamecube are to recent, but would love to read apon the rise and fall of the xbox as that was a machine that like the dream cast, never really met it's glory.
but no , I don't think it should be included in the publication for a few years yet.

Yes the DC was sad, but it's already been a good 5 years since these consoles were at their height. If the DC had done well, would you consider it retro? Once they're no longer available mainstream, and the media have turned to the next thing, that's when it becomes specialised and it's retro (in my opinion).

I personally would draw the line at the PS1 generation. Anything after that is too soon.

Yes.
Great games are great games, and seeing as none of those consoles have dedicated magazines or coverage in multi format mags (well, much) anymore, where else are people meant to read about them?
Bring it on I say, and I for one will look forward to reading it. (and if you don't include them i'll still enjoy reading the mag, so it's win win for me)

I don't class Ps2 Xbox or gamecube Retro, just yet, the Dreamcast is over 10yrs old now, the other are much newer systems, if I was to pick a machine to be retro , it would be PS2 as than was the first of the 256bit console (is that correct info???) , I think to suit everyone, would be to have maybe like a "Back To The Noughties" but nothing indept par say..I would be happy with that.TyronW wrote:Greyfox wrote:no m8, I feel if they are included, it would begin to start to become a modern / early 2000 feature, I don't think it would suit the orginal content that is there now, maybe in about 5 yrs from now ..yes, Retro Gamer is about reto gaming, althought, some would feel that the xbox 1 & ps2 or gamecube are to recent, but would love to read apon the rise and fall of the xbox as that was a machine that like the dream cast, never really met it's glory.

Re: Idea for magazine
The Dreamcast had already been covered in one issue.
The products for PS2 is still available and on-going even though it's likely to be neglected. Since the Xbox and Gamecube had already been discontinued, it's very hard to say they'll be classify as retro.
So I'm going for either way.

Re: Idea for magazine
as long as there are no current gen stuff (360 - ps3 etc. except retro compilations) I think it would be cool
Re: Idea for magazine
I would love to seem some 'cube features, so yeah why not.

Re: Idea for magazine
I agree about the DC, but the PS2 is also 10 years old. Regardless of the bit of the console (after all 8-bit computers went on for years, then onto the NES) it's an old console. You can get them cheap, and major stores don't stock them. The media don't turn to them, they're not at E3. They are retro.Greyfox wrote:I don't class Ps2 Xbox or gamecube Retro, just yet, the Dreamcast is over 10yrs old now, the other are much newer systems, if I was to pick a machine to be retro , it would be PS2 as than was the first of the 256bit console (is that correct info???) , I think to suit everyone, would be to have maybe like a "Back To The Noughties" but nothing indept par say..I would be happy with that.TyronW wrote:Greyfox wrote:no m8, I feel if they are included, it would begin to start to become a modern / early 2000 feature, I don't think it would suit the orginal content that is there now, maybe in about 5 yrs from now ..yes, Retro Gamer is about reto gaming, althought, some would feel that the xbox 1 & ps2 or gamecube are to recent, but would love to read apon the rise and fall of the xbox as that was a machine that like the dream cast, never really met it's glory.

no..I still think althought there is an incredible volume spanning all 3 consoles, it was not so long ago, I read about stuff been done on them, you have the modding scene , especially the xbox 1, I have all the emus for it and play like a dream, would love something like that covered, the PS2 got a good Snes emulator and a perfect Megadrive one, I can see this debate going on for a while..

Re: Idea for magazine
The Dreamcast is 12yrs old, the PS2 is 10 yrs old and the Gamecube and Xbox are 9.
Not really that much between them so if the Dreamcast can be featured then why not the others?
What is and isnt considered 'retro' is subjective anyway and they will be featured in the mag at some point so i wouldnt mind seeing an article about them every now and again
