This week's batch

Post by Spooky » Wed May 26, 2010 10:20 am

From what I remember, there is:
River Raid
Millipede (arcade)
Spider Fighter
Boxing (Intellivision)
Buzz Bombers
Haunted House
Strategy X

Of course, I've downloaded River Raid as soon as I saw it... and I was slightly tempted by Buzz Bombers & Spider Fighter, but in the end I went back to last week's batch and got Space Armada instead (my Intellivision room needed a little boost... and it's a nice little clone of Space Invaders)

What about you?

I have just bought River Raid. I never got a chance to play it properly back in the day, so now is the time!

I got the arcade version of Millipede (I was holding out for it, didn't see the point of downloading the Atari 2600 version really) and Strategy X, because it's such an obscure little shoot 'em up but very fun when you get into it. :)

IMO, Game Room is starting to find it's feet now :)

I quite liked Strategy X when I tried the demo last night and may well buy it. Not sure about River Raid yet. It's a classic for sure but I recently played it a lot in the Retro League.

No news yet. Servers were down this afternoon. Could that mean anything?

Update:
http://forums.xbox.com/32809071/ShowPost.aspx

Slightly delayed? Does that mean we'll get new titles later today, or later in the week?...

Anyway, the titles announced:
Frog Bog – Intellivision
* Missile Command – Arcade
* Mr. Kabuki – Arcade
* Skiing – Atari 2600
* Video Pinball – Atari 2600

I'm curious about Missile Command, it does ring a bell but I don't think I know this from the arcade... possibly a conversion. Also curious about Mr. Kabuki, it does sound like another beat'em up... maybe I'm wrong though!
And I think I used to have Video Pinball as a child, so I might be interested in this one...

Thanks for the update, Spooky.

I think I'll skip this week's release, as none of the seve... five games are of particular interest to me. 2600 Skiing and Video Pinball are poor (though I did play Video Pinball a lot, but then I was very young and that was waaaay before Pinball Dreams showed what a video pinball should be like ;)) ; Frog Bog is only fun as a two player game, and Missile Command is best played with a trackball. As for Mr Kabuki (aka Mr Goemon), I tried to play the game once or twice being an absolute fan of the Goemon Ganbare series on the Super Famicom, only to find out that this early arcade episode was nowhere near as much fun as its 16 bit console counterpart.

Not much to be excited about imo.

Yeah, I agree about 'Mr Kabuki', it's interesting only as a curio but it's nowhere near as fun as later games in the Goeman series and not even much fun as a stand alone game in it's own right :(

I will try the demo of Missile Command, if it's fairly playable with the analogue stick (as opposed to the original trackball I'm used to with it) then I may well get it....I have my doubts though :| How well the controls work can make or break a lot of the older games....the twin analogue sticks work great for Battlezone, not so great for Centipede or Millipede (which originally had trackballs) although I had enough fun with the demos to warrant getting them.

Next week's batch:
Intellivision - Baseball
Atari 2600 - Circus Atari, River Raid 2, Sky Jinks
Arcade - Video Hustler

Only 5 games this week... I don't know much about these, but I'm definitely tempted by River Raid 2 if it's as good as the first one... :wink:
