Must own games of all time....

Post by Riddler » Tue Apr 27, 2010 7:38 am

.....Regardless of platform.

As i am gonna go on a bit of a spending spree (not too crazy), i need to know what titles i should get and what you think are the absolutely can't live without playing/owning titles:

Games i have include:

Chrono Trigger SNES
Goldeneye 007 N64
Final Fantasy VII PS1
Shenmue DreamCast
Street of Rage 2 Megadrive
Gunstar Hero's Megadrive
Double Dragon NES

Any suggestions welcome.

Eternal Darkness - Cube
God of War 3 - PS3
Uncharted 2 - PS3
Gears of War series - 360

Thanks, try to limit as muach as you can, remeber i gotta buy some of these so only absolute can't live with out titles, not just ones you think are really good.

Keepin' it retro would be great and i'll accept any PS1 but again only if its in the FF7 type league!

Riddler how about you buy games you like

Some of the must have games are a very acquired taste, even when going from the lists already posted.

Just because they are 'must have' to one does not means they will be naff to another.

Sureshots (?) thread at the top of the page has links to many of the systems and recommended games and would be a good starting point.

I dont want you splashing the cash and being very dissapointed as can sometimes happy as you get a 'is this it?' moment!

yep...i'd gladly live without your whole original list Riddler to be honest (apart from maybe Shenmue) as none of them ever appealed (Chrono Trigger being the only one i've never played) for too long if at all. Doesn't mean any are bad or not must haves...but it may mean my must haves are of no interest or relevance to you.

No its not what i meant, sorry. Just give me your "must haves" but not a whole long list of games you just like. I'm not gonna go out buying them all up but a list of must own games i can look into is a good start.

On a further note, i seem to have a limited range of games that i have found truely awesome. I find input from others invaluble as i never would have discovered broken sword if one of my friends didn't mention it in passing, and never would i have played finan fantasy 7 if my older brothers friend never loaned him his PS1 one day.

I also never would have discovered you can play old arcade games on an emulator had one of my classmates in uni not have one running one lesson (sorry Phil...err i mean "Dave").

I seem to have discovered a lot of great games from others so thats why i asks for your absolute must haves. No other forum i can think of is as godd as this one for help.

Good choices. I like the GC version of Ikaruga but it's a trip into fuzzy-o-vision for me the DC version looks crisp and contains the slowdown that was in the arcade version. Still each to his own mate :D

As mentioned above, there's a VERY comprehensive thread suggesting titles for each possible format, I spend ages just wandering through those and trying must-play titles mainly via emulation, I can spend hour son those threads alone.

You may also want to try the suggestions in these pages - Racketboys' a good site, but the 'Hidden Gems' section gives you a lot of leads to try stuff you NEVER would have found before -

http://www.racketboy.com/guide/hidden-gems

These 2 sources alone give me hours of amusement.

Surprised no-ones mentioned ALL the Metal Gear Solid games for PS1/PS2 yet - get those, they're effing brilliant.
