We're lucky to still have a dedicated high street retailer that specialises in games. Losing that would be bad for the industry.[/quote]

I wouldn't necessarily disagree with that sentiment, however, apart from a few independents, GAME have a virtual monopoly as a high street retailer that specialises in games. There needs to be another player/players to give the high street consumer more choice (I have deliberately avoided reference to the Internet/Supermarkets at this juncture) . In the end, it was a shame that Gamestation was acquired by GAME as well but there you go.

Funny story today. I went into GAME and there was this big fat customer who smelled really bad. I was at the till and as soon as the offender left the store, one of the staff whipped out a can of air-freshener. I just had to ask "so how many of those cans do you go through in a week then?"

I asked the numpty behind the counter for a discount on the 2nd hand version, and was promptly rebuffed with the line "I dont make the prices mate!"
What you needed in that situation was a quote from a judge dredd comic .

Nothing unusual there perhaps, but then I looked at the 2nd hand section & found the same title for £27.99, yes a whole £2 off. Fortunately, I bought this title online for a cheaper price than the second hand copy but what a rip off! I sincerely hope they go bust for conning the ignorant. Perhaps games should have the label "Cavaet emptor" = Let the buyer beware.

How are they conning the ignorant? You pays your money and takes your choice.
Can't help think of sainsbury's here like, when my mother just left the till with her shopping, checked here receipt and found they had charged her £15 odd for a buch of bananas! What made it even more bonkers, was the person who came to check her receipt. she looked intently at the bunch of nanas (all three of them)just to make sure the amount on the receipt didn't actually match the price on the bananas.

What a loon, she seemed to think they might actually sell £15 bananas.

Yep. I've had top do that back in the day when this one customer would come in and sink the shop out. He was a drug addict, he was homeless and he couldn't read nor write. He had no teeth either. But do you know what? He was actually a very nice man - things just went wrong for him in life. He'd come into the shop and trade censored in for other second hand games.

Where was this 'homeless' man playing his games? Even assuming he'd got a portable, where was he plugging it in for power/recharge?

That my friend is something I always wondered too. Presumably he was staying at a shelter or something, or was playing on a friends system. He really loved PS2 titles. I reckon he sold quite a lot of stuff into us too though for his drug habit.

You're jumping to a conclusion that my theory circumnavigates: He thieved them, and was laundering them.

We still have both in Australia. One shopping centre near me has a Game 5 stores down from an EB. I don't know if they're going to be closing one or the other anytime soon, but both are fairly common over here.

The EB stores that exists now doesn't have anything to do with GAME. If anything EB might change into Gamestop stores :P

What I do like about GAME is they occasionally have ridiculously cheap stuff...their strategy guides are usually the first to go cheap, and sometimes you can get a deal.

I feel sorry for the average Joe who goes into GAME to buy the latest game every week...

I got the GTA San Andreas guide (massive book indeed) for 1p from there once. My best bargain so far for sure.

Another low for game... Today I asked about the price of God Of War III for the PS3. I just wanted to know how much it would be so I could consider trading some games in for it. I was told by the Manager "Sorry mate, we don't give prices out before a game is released as you'll just go to the internet and buy it"

O...k...
