Isn't Aliens: Colonial Marines coming out this November?
Possibly. Probably near the end of the year is the most likely guess.

It's already 11 months late.

For me, I wouldn't call it hate. I really like modern games about as much as the classics. The only problem I have with them is that they try too hard to appeal to everyone. As an avid fan of rpgs this is the core problem. For example Mass Effect 2: Yeah, part 1 was already rpg-light, but instead of improving this portion they dumbed it down even more. Now I have a shooter with some - agreed, very good written - dialogues. And I don't like the shooting-mechanic in this game that much. The likes of Uncharted 2 or Gears of War cover this aspect much better.
In terms of Bioshock 2 I think many people expected much more of it, of course as the first part was such a critical hit. But even with Bioshock I have my gripes - although I really enjoyed it. But if you compare it with System Shock 2 you got dumbing down there, too. It's a shame. When System Shock 2 and Deus Ex were released I thought most future FPS games would be like them. But it came exactly the oppossite. Now we are again stuck with the likes of Doom, only with much better technology.
The "games must be a cinematic experience"-attitude is another problem I see for the future. Hopefully the developers don't forget, that they are making a game, not a movie....

That is the biggest problem for me these days. While I thought the Modern Warfare 2 campaign was epic and censored awesome it really was too much of a movie IMHO, also with the difficulty (which there was little of) - they might as well make an actual movie of it :?

Wouldn't be surprised if they did though...

Isn't it more realistic just to say that bona fide classics don't actually come along very often, and they never did? I mean, I spent the best part of 10 years gaming on the C64 as a youngster, playing hundreds, if not thousands of games, and of those I doubt if there are really more than a couple of dozen that I'd talk about in glowing terms today. I think any suggestion of a downward trend overall is just doom-mongering. The next decent shooter might be just around the corner (maybe Max Payne 3?), we just don't know.

Mass Effect 2 is no RPG at all but is a good game in its own way (I personally found GoW utterly infuriating), but there's always Fallout 3, Oblivion, Dragon Age: Origins, Lost Odyssey, all of which seem competent enough to me.

Yep, it's a good game in its own way, as the other games you mention - okay, apart from Lost Odyssey, I really disliked that one :D . But if you compare those games to the likes of Baldur's Gate 2, Planescape: Torment, the first two Fallout games or even Arcanum, they simply can't reach this kind of quality. I know it sounds a bit silly but as it's my favourite genre I'm a little bit picky about that subject^^

One thing I have to say that does put me off the whole current gen thing is the insane commercialism. I know it's always been there since the PS1 but now it's really in your face. I hate having to be online to play certain games like on XBLA and that pee's me off as it's forcing me to use a service I don't much care about. I'm not a fan of Inside Xbox, the presenters make me want to kill them! and seeing videos to exclusive celebrity launch parties to new games just puts me off playing them big time.

Then there's all the other crap! I load up my 360 and I see Facebook, Twitter etc stuff polluting my games console. One reason I love the Wii is that it's not ashamed of being one, and I would argue the point that it's actually less commercial in a sense, hopefully you know where I'm coming from.

Yeah, I understand what you're talking about - I too hate all that crap on Xbox Live, but I just ignore it and never use it.

It's the matter of gaming taste as you can't always like what you saw and the concept gets observe very often by everybody. And yep games like Bioshock and Mass Effect always seem to be overlooked by other first person shooters such as Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2.

When I first played Killzone 2, I didn't realise that it offers that potential to be a solid FPS game (as I never play the first game) and was quite impress with it. Might need to resume back to it as been a while I haven't play it.
JetSetWilly wrote:I don't hate modern games, i just get frustrated with them, Modern Warfare 2 especially. Keep finding people cheating (one uses Tactical insertion (oo-er  ) and his mate stabs him, always on Free-For-All) or getting messages like:

'If you want to Prestige easily, then join our lobby and we will prestige you to Level 10'

Has anyone else had this? If I want to Prestige, I'd rather do it through hard work so I get satisfaction that I've done it properly. I'm getting so hacked off with it, I'm trading it in tomorrow.
When I was playing Call of Duty: World at World last year, I received a message from some unknown gamer that knows how to get a Prestige Level 10, which I can't be bothered. Then it was followed by another message regarding the Double XP week as everybody plays Domination to stack up more points. Plus I get more messages from others saying that they want to recruit me to their clan.

I do agree with you there: I do wish the console concentrated on doing what it does best, and thats playing games. But then, every console (at least since the Mega Drive) has tried to sell itself as a 'complete entertainment package', so it's nothing new (Sega did it with the Mega CD and releasing non-games, the PS1 was sold as a great CD player, PS2 as a DVD player etc etc. It's gone over the top with both the PS3 and 360 (and the Wii to an extent, Iplayer and other channels), but it probably will only get worse when the next round of consoles comes along.

What I hate about MW2 on line is when I play domination, people playing it as deathmatch. Its not deathmatch. Its domination. The objective is to capture points, not running around killing people. Its annoying me even more now that I have the option of prestige. Why not play it properly?

On FIFA10, i hate people pulling the plug cause they are 2 down with 10 to go.

Whilst I love this gen (being new to it), i can see why people get annoyed & frustrated by it... especially with online matches.

This gen has really got me back into gaming again... whilst there are lots of cr*p games out there, there are also some peaches, which are worth the time & effort to get into.

.
It's the same with Demolition. If people play it properly, they have the chance to make an absolute ton of XP when the bombs are planted and defused many times a game. But they don't. They either run around miles away from the bombsite they should be defending whilst the other team happily takes the roud or they camp at their spawn point when they are attacking and let the defenders come to them. Infuriating.

Not as infuriating as bloody tubers though. It's wrecking the game on hardcore for me now, it was bad on COD4 but it's just pathetic on this one.

also, as y'all know I've only been online (xbox live) for 2 weeks, but it seems to me that some people on like deathmatchs just dont die....it's like theyve put in a cheat or something. Does that happen?

I've just started to notice them!

Also, controlling the air.... C130... see this more often on the desert map.... you keep re-spawning in the same spot & die & die & die & Die & die... & you can't actually do anything about it...

MW2 needs some "tweaking" in some areas to balance play more.. (there was a patch the other day...)

& the servers were down last night...
