Unless I'm forgetting something - and not counting having my score displayed on an online leaderboard - I think it must have been Street Fighter IV all the way back in 2009.
Needless to say, the awesomeness made up for the lateness.

Quake 2 was my first, well over 10 years ago. Still play it online to this day, even though I have dial-up whilst everyone else has better. Just call me Fred Flintstone.

Doom shareware, early-mid 90s on a LAN at work - inbetween working on Autocad. Didn't last long before we were told games weren't allowed....
then.... Team Fortress on the PC... over dial up. Slow, laggy, unreliable - but was amazing fun... then didn't game on PC for years... and got a 360 in August for my 40th & went on line over Xmas... with MW2... and have been bitten by the bug... level 63 I think.. desperate to get to 70 to see what happens!!
You really can't beat online gaming - as long as you ignore the idiots & cheats...

People still have dial-up? why not upgrade to broadband?

Delta Wing on the ZX Spectrum in 1984. I'd also had Hunter Killer the year before, but nobody to play against at the time.

First online game I played was Perfect Dark Zero on the 360 when it was released.
I remember playing a match and going '...meh'
It's like fighting bots, only stupider.

Dial up?!?!? I have a couple of cocoa tins & some string here, that might be quicker
Seriously, get broadband & get on line - I'm lost a bit of sparkle for gaming, but going on line has changed all that...
And I take back MW2 being not so great on line....

The original CoD on the PC was my first foray into online gaming! I sucked at it then, and I suck at it now!
