Best title/character selection/name input screen music?

Post by harlequ1n » Sat Jan 23, 2010 7:58 am

If something whispers quality in a game is the details from the very beginning, be it an outstanding start screen or kick-arse character selection or name input screen music. I'd love to know your favourites, among mine are:
Bonus: Mega Man 3 title screen with lyrics - just hilarious :D

Street Fighter 2's character selection screen will always be a good one, with it's iconic music.

Turtles in Time has a nice variant of the main Turtles theme.

The steppy little ditty in Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine - it's like being in a car factory, but with beans!
My comics blog (mostly lesser-known UK stuff from the 80s and 90s)

I love the high-score name entry music on Commando (C64).

I'm quite fond of the 'Puff The Magic Dragon' remix that plays while you enter your initials in Pang! I also like the high score entry music from Tetris on the GB and Pirate Ship Higemaru (Capcom arcade game).

Fave title music...is a toss up between 2 Speccy games.....Kwik Snax and Slightly Magic, they're both good. :)

Glad this topic has come up, I often spend time listening to the diferent bits of music on certain parts of games.

Although its worth mentioning these most awesome Amiga music intro's

Okay... I think you lot have been spoiled enough for one morning =)

For best title I could go on forever, so I'll stick with select/input screens.

SoR2 is a definite for me as well. Trying to rack my brains for some more at the moment, but here's one to start:

Virtua Fighter

Oh and another:

Out Run - Last Wave. Still sends a shiver down my spine.

These two sort of count as well, as they're both the intro/select screen music:

Road Rash 3
Skitchin'

I regularly cover these (to varying levels of success) on my guitar.

And another couple that are 'cheating':

NHLPA '93 (Rob Hubbard, dontcha know!)
Madden '93 (and again!)

Super Mario Bros. 2 (as in: the American Doki Doki Panic clone) by a considerable long shot.

The amazingly beautiful Spanish Guitar on the Wheelman title screen is the best music I've ever heard since the Secret of Mana theme music on SNES.
I'll often leave it playing on the title screen as I go about my daily household business. (yes, really! )
