I would be pretty certain that some work would have been started on the Amstrad version. At the very least even if just a straight Spectrum port.

I think the Amstrad slightly outlasted the Spectrum in terms of its commercial life, with most Spectrum output stopping around 1993. So it wasn't a case of the Amstrad dying out fully for a non-conversion I don't think. Unless a specifc Amstrad version was developed (With full colours etc) and they hit problems, got to 1993 and decided to call it a day? Spectrum owners maybe were just lucky.

Over the past few months, GTW64 has been working with C64.com to preserve a series of games after working on the disk collection of Darren Melbourne. 25 or so disks were painstakingly preserved by C64.com, and GTW64 trawled through these and found many a lost game. We present a good selection of these, but more will follow in the future with more disks being examined and preserved by both of us.

The collaborated update includes:

(*) Nuker preview found and released
(*) Runestone preview found and released
(*) Duel full game found and released
(*) Unnamed CRL game preview found and released
(*) Leopard Lord full game found

Then part of GTW64's usual update includes:

(*) Necronom graphical assets found
(*) Shao Lin's Road V1 assets found
(*) Enduro Racer V1/V2 preview found
(*) Early version of Microprose Soccer released
(*) More details on Razzmatazz added
(*) 42 other new entries added
(*) 17 existing entries updated

Enjoy, and hope you all have a good holidays and a happy new year! We'll be back in 2012 with more joint findings :)

Thanks! ... Will do! :)

There is loads more to come, as i'm filtering through about C64 100 disks at the moment from an ex-developer - porting to PC via the 1541U2 ... bit slow going as all the disks need cleaning before reading :)

A quick update with the recovery of an interesting Qix inspired game called Pen Palz, where you must draw a certain percentage of the screen whilst avoiding enemies. A cool early preview worth checking out!

Sprites seem to be "borrowed" from Rainbow Islands!!
Good find though

Yeah, I thought at first that it all looked a bit "familiar" ;-) - the caterpillar character couldn't really go unnoticed :)

Some developers often used to borrow sprites temporarily in the early stages of development - normally from the game which they were trying to achieve the same kind of theme, then replace them later on. Quite a few instances of this in the archive, or alternatively with very simplistic test graphics.
