Street Fighter 2 for the Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum

Post by AMSTRADBOUND » Tue Sep 29, 2009 8:41 pm

Does anyone have a copy of this game for both systems? Was it actually any good. I heard the loading times were horendous. Where would be the best place to get a copy?

:D

It was never released on the Amstrad in the end, despite a big fuss every month in Amstrad Action magazine right into as late as 1993 that 'it was coming'.

Although CPC fans were crushed, I think they'd have been more disappointed with the end result - most likely being a port of the Spectrum version which did get a release....

....and yus it was crap. If you look at still images / screenshots of the game the graphics look pretty cool, and seems promising ... until you actually load the game up and witness its broken game play and controls, and the speed it moves at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2nEFAI-F10

Oh yes ... someone recently (I think it was Hermol) did do a version of SF2 for the Amstrad, but in the end it was just a hack of the original Street Fighter game with different graphics - SF1 was awful in the first place. But if you want it, I think this is the link to play on an emulator - http://cpcrulez.free.fr/GamesDL_free/in ... 322e7a6970

SF2 on the C64 was marginally better, but with awful blocky graphics and small sprites, it may as well been called a totally different name.

I picked up the C64 version a little while ago for my Capcom collection, after reading the manual I'm now scared to try playing it looking at how the controls work on just a 1 button Joystick!
The Spectrum version seems to be pretty hard to get hold of. I've only ever seen it crop up on eBay once (and that was the KIXX release) and even then it sold for around £15-£20 (I forget the final price)

I hated the C64 version. The spectrum version did impress me with its massive sprites on screen.I think the pc engine version is the best out of the 8 bit ports.Although tectoy did a rather respectable port for the master system

That looks bad. I bet it's not as bad as the ST version though...

I think it was reviewed in the Amstrad Action tribute magazine for the cpc. Looked alright but wouldn't have a clue where to get hold of it.

Its on my list of things to check out someday when I get a chance. I'd imagine its like the Spectrum version of Final Fight. Pretty nice to look at still shots but absolute garbage should you attempt to play it!

theres an impressive demo of street fighter 2 on amstrad on youtube - not an expert by any means but i think it was on a + machine. looked really good and very colourful if a little chunky, ran at quite a lick too.

i thik it was some sort of homebrew project.

could of been fake?

i found it whilst looking for tech demos and cracktros, i'll see if i can find a link...

Its offical I cannot count or recognise 8-bit fighters :o , well the only one worth remembering was Way of the Exploding fist anyway.

@Shadowman do you want this 'AWESOME' Cassette for your Capcom collection? I will never play it before shifting off this mortal coil and I am not convinced the humble speccy could survive the depths of hell.

I'd think that it's essentially a rigged demo, although the palette and scrolling do suggest a regular CPC6128 rather than a plus model. The hardware sprites on the latter would certainly help for a game like this though.
