When I was at college and a hardcore Sega fanboy, I used to engage in regular MD vs Amiga type arguments with a friend of mine (Thunder Force 3 vs Project X was one of the biggest game-specific ones as I recall). He was obviously a die-hard Amiga fan, and he used to insist that the A500+ was the best machine. Compatible with all games, but with 1Mb or RAM. :)

@zetro

Does all of that gubbins you mentioned fit inside an A1200? do you end up with bits poking out all over the place?

^^ ditto on the question above, or do i need to towerise it? Also, will all of the add ons you suggested work with an A4000?

I'm really torn between A4000 and A1200, I guess I'll just wait to see what appears on ebay the first - lol. I'm very tempted to get a fully souped up A1200 just as you've described and £500ish seems pretty reasonable for such a high calibre old school gaming machine. Plus it seems that CD32 games are really starting to rise in value and I'm expecting the old school big box Amiga stuff to follow suit :)

Hi this is an excellent thread and I was wondering if I could ask the many amiga experts....

I have an a1200 with hd and a compact flash adaptor.

many moons ago I had a different a1200 with a cd rom that I used.....i bought the cd rom 2nd hand and i seem to remember it plugged into the pcmcia slot...

Is there a cheap interface lead I could use one of the many pc cd roms that i have spare in my loft or do I need a dedicated amiga cd rom.

I have a stack of cu amiga and amiga format cd roms that I would love to use....

Cheers :D

I was an Amiga boy at the time and wouldve been embarrassed by that comparison even then- I generally dislike Team 17 games intensely and wouldve changed the subject from horizontal shooters very quickly...even Aphidia wouldve been a tad outclassed, technically at the very least.

I wouldve then pointed out that a lot of Amiga to MD ports were better on the Amiga, and then bored you into submission by droning on about games like Interphase, Warhead and Captive. :wink:

I'd also go for the A500 with a meg upgrade for full trad power.

Yes you can use one of the pc cdroms.Then using the cd driver floppy that came originally with the cd rom kit to find the new cd drive...

Something like that would do the trick Benny, you can hook up any old cd rom drive using a normal ide ribbon cable, it also supports large hard drives, as you probably know the miggy as standard doesn't like HDDs bigger than 4gb
