Rare PS2 games

Post by cruachan » Thu Jul 30, 2009 11:25 am

I've started hoovering up rare (aka - sell for silly money on ebay) ps2 games from game stores in the last few days. I'm thinking in the next year or so these titles will not be sitting on shelves in GAME etc. so am doing my but now. This week alone I've picked up the following:

Suikoden Tactics - €6
Suikoden V - €10
Star Ocean - €10
Dirge of Cerebus - €10
Psyvariar - €10
Ico - €16
Shadow of the Colossus - €15
Star Wars Battlefront 2 - €2.50
Shadow Hearts - €2.50

Shadow hearts and suikoden tactics were good buys, psyvariar and dirge of cerebus are unlikely to go up in price though.

Yeah, I would call Psyvariar rare... I see it all the time for a couple of quid in CEX, GS etc.

I thought about buying that a few weeks ago in GS for £1.99, but left it in the end. Is it any good? Also last time I went in my local GS they had MvC2 for £12.99 - I thought that was a good price.

Keep an eye open for Legaia 2 : Duel Saga - I've only ever seen 1 copy of that in the shops, which is now sitting on my shelf...

Ico got re-released when SotC came out so I don't think it's that rare anymore.

Yeah, I have the re-released ICO.

Rare-ish games to snap up if you seem them (not all are necessarily valuable but they are uncommon):

- Wild Arms 5
- Any King of Fighters game or SNK Anthology
- Zombie Zone, Zombie Hunters, Zombie Hunters 2(early Onechanbra games).
- Mister Mosquito
- Marvel Vs Capcom 2
- Metal Gear Solid 2/3
special editions
- Mana Khemia (With outer card sleeve and soundtrack CD)
- Ar Tonelico (Only released in limited quantities on mainland Europe)
- Ar Tonelico 2 (Very recent, quick sell-out RPG)

Would Kuon count? I recall a small piece about it in one of the older RG's. If I recall, it only got a pal release in Mainland Europe - but might be wrong.

Eurogamer did a couple of articles around a year ago entitled Cult Classics: Playstation 2, which was in 5 parts. I imagine some of those are future classics.

Are you a member of Eurogamer too or do you just read the site?

I remember that article. There were similar ones for the GC and Xbox too - great reads.

I remember Fantavision for PS2 being mentioned in that. Not a common PS2 game but not valuable either. I have a brand-new condition copy waiting to be played.

Also, Kuon is pretty rare if I've heard rightly.

Ive said it else where but Fire Pro Returns Pal, will be rare as will other low print run games.

I reckon this would include stuff like Global Defence Force, Persona 4, Psychonauts, Okami (possibly?) BSG, Beyond Good and Evil, Herdy Gurdy, Alien hominid and others

I just read the site - My mate Ric introduced me to that and Kotaku on a dull day at the office a few years back. I visit both daily now - never get any work done anymore ;)

Thanks to that EG article, I grabbed Firefighter, Kuon, Echo Night: Beyond and a couple of others. Let me know what Fantavision is like when you get round to giving it a go?
