Japanese Megadrive help! Removing a very old mod

Post by filecore » Mon Jul 20, 2009 6:26 pm

I have a Jap Megadrive (Model HAA-2510), that has been modded with a PAL RF / 50hz. Even using the AV port, my Jap carts run at 50hz. (E.g. Sonic runs slow with big blue borders). I am guessing that this was done many many years ago, when the Megadrive was first available and people didn't have TVs with SCART/ NTSC compatible/60hz etc etc.

At the link below are some pictures. #3 is the important one.
Simply put, what do I need to do get the 60hz goodness back via the AV output? I didn't want to just remove all the obvious additions willy-nilly as I don't really know what I'm doing, so I thought best to consult some experts first. :-)

Thanks in advance for any help

Well, good thing you didn't remove the 'additions' willy-nilly then, since they're supposed to be there

I've marked the correct spot in this pic:

Give us a close up of that area ;)

Phew, cheers! I said I didn't know what I was doing! :)

Here's the closeup of that area:

Surely some of the soldering done to/for the RF mod is aftermarket though? Though I'm not fussed about leaving it there if it won't affect the change back to 60hz :)

Cheers!

Edit: Wait. I've had another look. Seems it's modded to be in english mode instead of JAP? In that case the area marked is for the JAP/ENG mod and not the 50/60 mod. Guess one of those red parts is the correct place to alter stuff then?

Sorry.

I've modded a few megadrives so i would say to reverse the mod, remove the solder link that the modder has put in at the 8 jumpers and reconnect the 2 points where the trace has been cut.
Those 8 points are for jap/eng and 50/60hz, how the jumpers are connected determines the outcoming signal.
I did write a more detailed answer but i wiped it out and i don't want to spend another 10mins typing it back in.
If you want a more detailed explanation let me know but what i've said should work.
