Very cool !

If you've got two devices, eg an ipad and an iphone or ipod touch.

Start the vectrex app in both, get to the same menu screen for a game, eg Minestorm with 'sound/overlay' along the top showing.

On the ipad select controls/connect, select the ipod/iphone under player 1 and then your ipod/iphone is turned into a vectrex remote ! Very cool and works well

Just been playing Scramble this morning, got quite far but the later levels are difficult with those tiny narrow columns/tunnels to fly along.

Loving the app

Ok, here are my first impressions of Vectrex Regeneration.

The app is free and Minestorm is included, to access the rest of the games you have to purchase the Megapack. Here in the UK the Megapack costs £4.99 which currently includes Armour Attack, Bedlam, Bezerk, Blitz!, Cosmic Chasm, Fortress Of Narzod, Heads Up, Hyper Chase, Pole Possition, Rip Off, Scramble, Solar Questt, Spike, Star Castle, Star Ship, Star Hawke & Web Wars.

The indy games currently included are Continuum, Thrust, Vector & War Of The Robots.

I've tested the app on an iPhone 4S & a iPad 2. Both work fine (There had been reports that it doesn't work on the iPad 2) and I haven't had any software crashes so far. Touch screen controls work far better on the iPad obviously due to there being more space on the screen but really to get the most out of this app you will need an icade or other controller device. Saying that, I still found Minestorm enjoyable on my iPhone with the touch screen controls.

Everything seems to be very well emulated but there is no speech on Spike! Darnit!!!

Obviously the blur effect from the original hardware is not really found here but I'd say that this is a very good app and well worth taking a look at, especially if you have an icade.

Mines a 4th gen iPad, it does appear to mess up every time on the 2nd level of Minestorm, but only for a few secnds then carries on again, so not a full crash. I'm going to go ahead and get the games pack anyway though as i'm sure this bug will get fixed.

Also may treat myself to an iCade, I had somehow managed to miss their existence until yesterday when reading this thread

Yeah i had a weird situation with Minestorm, i'm sure that'll be fixed in an update as they are aware of that issue.

Ahhhh the iCade, welcome to the great world of the iCade !

You can get them cheap on ebay, theres a lot of buy it nows and also some decent auctions ending.

I also bought the 8-bitty from America (http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ecea/) with slow shipping, cheap but took a while to get here. Great device, some of the button mapping is odd for 'some' games but still great, i'll have to try it out with the vectrex app.

Also available in the UK....

http://www.roobix.co.uk/icade-bitty-wir ... dmac9e2c65

But the iCade is superb just for 5 games alone...

Spectaculator - Allows you to use this
iMame - If you were one of the lucky non-jailbroken people who downloaded this last year when it was available for 2 days on the app store (before Apple found out and pulled it) then its one of the best things to have ever !
Vectrex - Now with this app the iCade is even more brilliant. Works very well, much easier to control must admit.
Activision Anthology - River Raid etc, well worth getting due to iCade controls
Atari - Lots of old classics work very well with this

Metal Slug is meant to work with iCade and i heard some people say it does but i just cant get it working.

Theres quite a few other iCade compatible games, the official 'Ms Pacman' has just had iCade controls added as well. A great list is here...

I'm not keen on most of the arcade compilations myself (Atari's arcade games rarely required joysticks, Midway Arcade is a blurry mess, and Activision Anthology last time I played left an annoying tab on-screen even when you were using the iCade), but from the Touch Arcade list, I'd recommend the following: AirAttack HD (1942 + beautiful graphics/crazy enemies); Pix’n Move Rush DX (retro platforming meets WarioWare mechanics); Forget-Me-Not (Pac-Man + Wizard of Wor + Rogue—works fine with swipe controls, too); Gridrunner; Mos Speedrun (time-attack platform game, although also fine with touch controls); Muffin Knight (the best of the Super Crate Box clones with iCade support); League of Evil 1 and 2 (time attack platformers, which are MUCH better with an iCade); Saucelifter (Choplifter); Ice Rage (Hat-Trick). The list also omits Retro Racing, which I'm not a huge fan of unless it's in the iCade, which makes it a much better game.

Note there are also some games on that list which are very much worth buying but that work far better with their native controls, notably all of Minter's efforts bar Gridrunner (Minos, GoatUp, Minotron, Minotaur Rescue) and ElectroMaster/HungryMaster, both of which make no sense without touch.

As for the Vectrex compilation, I've not played much yet and am looking forward to testing it out with the iCade.

^Have you ever got Metal Slug working on the iCade ?

I kept hearing it worked, you start Metal Slug, turn on your icade, close Metal Slug and re-open and it should be iCade compatible. Never got it working.

I don't own Metal Slug for iOS, I'm afraid.

Regarding Vectrex Regeneration, here is a video with a side by side comparison of the real hardware and the emulator running on an ipad2 in an iCade.

I second Forget-me-not and Gridrunner. Gridrunner is by Jeff Minter.... that's all I probably need to say on that.... and Forget-me-not is just bloody amazing. That one, specifically, is also available on PC. The PC version is free, too, by the way, and has some rather obvious advantages over the iOS version. Also means though that it makes it possible to try out the game before actually paying for it on the iOS store. That one can be found here: http://nyarlu.net/blog/videogames/forget-me-not/ That being the developer's site. I really cant speak highly enough of that game. Brilliant, just brilliant.

Also the original Super Crate Box works very, very well on iOS, though I'm not sure how well it is on phones and smaller devices, as I've only seen it on the iPad. Dunno if that has iCade support though.

Raiden Legacy came out this morning, great collection of the original Raiden games in one app, well worth getting.

Hoping GTA Vice City will be out for sure tomorrow at midnight, should know tomorrow lunchtime whether thats the case or not. I heard there was another problem with Baldurs Gate so that might not be out this week, fingers crossed it will be though

http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=168907

Looks good, only 69p. Seen a few videos for it, looks great, sort of mad max 'mario kart' ish style game.

Also remember Raiden Legacy...

http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=168770

Been playing this on my iCade and also 8-bitty (love this small bluetooth device). Also the Vectrex app, plays so well. Must admit its tricky using just the ipod touch on its own

Tomorrow at 11am GMT I'm hoping Vice City will rear its head in NZ !

So Raiden works on the iCade? Wasn't going to get it before (got them on all on one console or another) but iCade support would sway me! Can't wait for Vice City either, loved it back on release and also really enjoyed GTA 3 last year so this is a must buy.

Yep Raiden works on the icade, very well !

Right heres the latest games, going to be out in the UK at midnight...

Mini Gore 2
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=169062
Good dual stick shooter

Into the Dead
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=169068
Looks like a first person 'runner' game, could be alright, need to wait for a video

Modern Combat 4
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=169058
Looks great, big filesize, premium price but at least its not freemium. From the video it looks very impressive

Mutant Mudds
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=169071
Looks to be a very good old skool platformer, was out previously on one of the consoles, looks great

Man in a Maze
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=169064
Looks to be a strange 'stealth' game but also Pacman/Boulderdash

No word yet from Vice City ! Hopefully it'll be out in NZ soon. But some good games above

Played a lot on my iCade yesterday, love it ! I mean just the Vectrex app was brilliant, played a few others as well (MAME/Speccy) and of course Raiden.

Also this game came out a few weeks ago but had dodgy swipe controls, the dev listened and added buttons....

Space Disorder
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=159840

Its free, various IAP's, a 69p purchase will remove the ads. Its well worth picking up, left/right controls with a thrust for the Jetpac, looks great, as its free you might as well look at it anyway
