Sonic the Hedgehog

Post by chrislondon » Tue Jun 30, 2009 1:01 pm

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum so "Hi" to everyone. Was feeling a little nostalgic so i've just finished playing through Sonic 1,2, and 3 on the original mega drive console and thought i'd pose the following questions to you...

1) What's your favorite Sonic game (on any system)?
2) What is your favorite Zone/Level?

I'll get things started by saying that Sonic 2 is my favorite since it improves on the original sonic but retains the originals charm. My favorite zone has to be Star Light Zone from the original.

Chris

For me it's the original Sonic on the MD. Saved up my pocket money for a couple of months before buying a brand new copy it blew me away. Fantastic graphics, the speed, the gameplay etc

Sonic 3 with or without Knuckles connected.Doesn't matter. To me it's simply the biggest, most colorful and addictive of the 2D Sonic's which are the best anyway.I never really understood why Sonic 2 was considered the best except that some people don't like the length and complexity of the levels in Sonic 3.Otherwise Sonic 3 seems superior.

As for my favorite zone I would say Angel Island(first zone of Sonic 3)

In response to lexiomiguel, in my opinion there are certainly things that Sonic 3 improves upon such as the way that zones all continue on from one another creating a more cohesive experience. Also the graphics are obviously nicer and some of the music is great (Carnival Zone). For me though, it seems to ever so slightly lose some of the charm of the original. Its hard to put my finger on, its just doesn't invoke quite the same feelings. Anyway, thats just my point of view :-)

I understand. To be honest,Sonic 3 was the first one I ever played so it's probably hard for me to be sensitive to a lack of charm when compared to the other two.

I'm the same as the Foot man, Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2. It's my favourite game of all time ever, and Chemical Plant Zone's the fastest and 2nd hardest out of all the levels (after Metropolis). Has the best music too, it's my ringtone thing!

I absolutely love Sonic, and my fave Sonic game has to be Sonic 2 on the MD! In the early nineties I always looked forward to visiting my auntie and uncle's house in Bournemouth as they had a Japanese MD! :D They had the jap version of this game and me and my brother would play this solidly for hours on end! Simple, charming and great fun to play! Whenever me and my brother went there, we treasured our time with Sonic 2 as we didn't have a megadrive at home. The closest we got to playing Megadrive games in our house was our Amiga 1200. Ahh, if only US Gold did do home computer ports of Sonic. Then again, if US Gold ported it, it could well have been sh!te

Sonic 3 & Knuckles comes a close second. It was huge, and the gameplay was good. Shame it didn't offer the same amount of charm. It could have been the best one ever.

Favorate Game: Sonic 1
Favorate music Music: Spring Yard Zone Sonic 1

And strangly if prefer to hear the 50htz version of spring yard zone instread of the 60 htz version of it. I think all the sonic games (after sonic 1) on 50htz ran at the correct speed after the original......Can anyone clarify that?

Oh, and my favourite zone is Metropolis from Sonic 2. A fun, challenging and well-designed zone that also had some cracking music!
