Recommend me PSP games

Post by Darran@Retro Gamer » Tue May 26, 2009 6:54 pm

Started to get back into the PSP lately, mainly because it has a fair few retro compilations and old style games on it. I've decided to make it my main console of choice for collecting and have the following. But what good games am I missing?

I'm aiming to replace the promos with original cases as I'm a stickler for instructions and a nice row of boxes, but as I have them they're not a priority. I'm also aware of the Portable compilations that Konami have released in Japan, but they seem quite expensive. Any ideas/recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Wow we have a similar taste in games :)

What's Guilty Gear like? Does it suffer from stupid loading times like the SNK compilations?

Would have to recommend Me And My Katamari here Darran, as it's not on your list. A great game once you get used to the controls, and dirt cheap now too (mine was only a fiver from CEX)
Sig pic temporarily removed...The Magnificent 7 will ride again 8)

Guilty Gear is superb on the PSP. Hardly any loading times at all. You get the whole Xbox game (Midnight Carnival), and and extra scrolling-beat-mup type of game. Highly recommended, oh yes!

I don't have too many PSP games yet, but the ones I have are:

Burnout Legends (sucks ass)
Everybody's Golf (the greatest, most addictive golf game ever)
Lemmings (great version of the classic)
LocoRoco (the greatest anything ever)
LocoRoco 2 (as good as the first)
Lumines (great puzzler)
Metal Gear Acid (not got around to playing yet)
Ridge Racer (great so far, not played much yet)
Sega Rally (pretty good, similar to Sega Rally 2 on DC)
Space Invaders Extreme (awesome update)
Taito Legends Power Up (ace compilation)
Virtual Tennis World Tour (good in short bursts)
Wipeout Pure (not too bad, great if you like Wipeout!)

:)

I have got it, recently completed last week actually. You're right, it does get a lot better once you get used to the controls.

Them Konami compilations may be expensive, but they're definitly worth the money. Maybe not so much the TwinBee one, but the Salamander one is fantastic. It's got Xexex included! I managed to get the Parodius, TwinBee and Salamander ones in a special three-pack thingy off of eBay for £45, seemed like a good deal to me. I love how the PSP hasn't got a region lock-out :D

Sega Rally is a definite - it really is a lot like the 360 version.
Flatout Head on is great too; another game thats very like the 360 version!
And seeing as I have a driving theme here.... WRC and TOCA 2 are also very good.

I am absolutely in love with Star Ocean 2 at the moment, I cannot stop playing this game!!!! it has stolen my heart and soul!!!!

at the moment I am playing the PSX converted to PSP game, but from what I hear there is infact a PSP version of it.... hmmm i must find this..

you say tales of Eternia eh????? I will look into this... I am hoping that the PSX game "Beyond the Beyond" is as good as the write-ups say, I was most excited to read in this issue that there is going to be a new release of Vandel Hearts: Flames of Judgement... it would be nice to know if it follows the story of Ash.

and now it is known of my sluttyness towards Japanese RPG's...... sigh.... i'm weak.....

However, to be completly fair I have toooo many games for my PSP, over 100+ PSP games, and 70+ PSX games, then theres emulators and emulation games but I am not including those.. way too many... (i have more memory cards than I think it technically possible to own!!!) *got a CR-5400 comming + 2x 16GB MicroSD's (yep 32GB that should save some entertainment!!!!)

My latest purchase for the PSP is the EA replay, I got for £7 from eBay, a damn good compliation of games I must admit, although... not the best ports LOL i wasn't expecting the SNES version of syndicate for one!!!!! However I was giving road rash 3 some serious spanking to cheer myself up BUT (and its a big one) I found Wing Commander next unplayable to be honest (just too fast), infact I got that anoyed I turned it off and Instead I play the MegaCD version through emulation instead

yeah its a little with the button configs but, we get there :D... and them Kilrathi only know the wrath of the emulated C button!!!!

If you like compilations, Atari Classics Evolved is worth getting. The originals are all there, plus some updates that are actually worth playing and then theres 44 unlockable Atari 2600 games (including my fave Adventure).

A great compilation this one.

-------------

Have to recommend Medal Of Honour. Getting used to a FPS on a PSP took me a while but once your into it MOH is fantastic. Mainly for the deathmatch style Skirmish mode.
