Nah, only a few of those (Castlevania, Vandal Hearts, Doadonpachi) are pricey. I'm a firm believer that one arsekicking mofo of a game for £50, say, beats six average/good ones. :)

tekken 3
soulblade
croc
spyro
gex
medievil 1 + 2
resi 2
final fantasy 7/8/9

not all ps1 exclusives, but essential none the less.

you can pick up massive bundles of games on ebay for peanuts. I just bought a 29 game lot for £5.50. Included duke nukem and wipeout along with a load of others I haven't got round to trying out yet - got sucked into wipeout. Its a fantastic system and desparately needs a retroinspection.

This is true. Zombies don't run. I'll let RE4 and 5 off mind as they weren't zombies as such? Las Plagas?

I'll also take this opportunity to tell everyone to play Omega Boost (and no, it's not a fish oil!)

Hogs of War, Bishi-Bashi Special, Ape Escape, Ridge Racer Type 4 and Tekken 3 are some of the best games ever. They'll do nicely.

I really love:

Silent Hill
Final Fantasy VII
Vib Ribbon
Discworld (1&2)

Spyro the Dragon games are good too, and Resident Evil from survival horror (though I personally like more Silent Hill's mood)

I keep coming back to:

Doom
Final Doom
Strider 2
The Namco Museum Disks - particularly Encore because that has Rolling Thunder on it
N20
r-types
and the first Die Hard Trilogy

Is Final Doom so different from Doom?

All those recommendations, and not a single person has mentioned Broken Sword.

Admittedly, it was very gutsy with the memory card (As is Populus the Beginning), but it was a pretty good version as I recall.

In fact, it made me go out & buy the PC version at a later date (and the DS version since).

I loved my PS1(s), so may I recommend:
G*Police
Capcom Vs SNK Millennium Fight 2000
Street Figher Alpha 3

Two great fighters and a great action game.

Different levels from Doom - not quite as complex as the PC version of Final Doom.

I featured one of my all time PS1 favourites recently on Youtube. Its not too well known, but definately work tracking down (especially for fans of Bubble Bobble/Snow Bros and the like)
