If you could only have 1 machine for the rest of your life

...which would you choose?

PC/console emulation is not allowed.

I'd have a Megadrive because of the multitude of creative games made back in the day when there was actually a bit of originality.

what about you?
Thoughts and prayers.

My heart says SMS the first console I actually bought, a brilliant little system.

My head says Spectrum, a hand me down from my Brother and my most played Retro System. Just the vast amount of games that I never got to play as things back then were moving so fast. That almost sounded Gay?

Also a Tape deck that worked at least 50% of the time and hand not been twiddled to death.

It's a close run thing between the ZX Spectrum and C64 but I am going to go for the Spectrum as not only did I have many years of fun from my old 48k it played host to a great many of my all time favourite games. I'm not sure I could live with the truly shoddy C64 port of Bombjack for the rest of my life despite the latter machine also hosting so many fantastic games as Bombjack is one of my absolute favourites :)

Not many shmups though!

I'd probably go with Megadrive too. Good selection of many quality good games. Is PC for commercially released games allowed? if so, probably that actually. Many fond memories and obviously a vast selection of games.

Gamecube, no question.

And I think it says something about the Wii that I wouldn't even consider it, even though it plays all gamecube games.

Spectrum 100%. NOT just saying it as a plug, but doing the Speccy review books, it amazes me how many great games there really are for the system. Too often i might try the same ones on emulation but now theres just so many other games i know about which i need to give a good amount of time to.

Theres the nostalgia factor, but also the games back then were so playable, a huge wide range of games and genres, superb machine

If online play is allowed then it would have to be the 360,

I could never go back to not being able to play online.....

+ I would still have access to the superb retro content via xbox live (not emulation, I mean the games you can buy)

Although I have been gaming since the C64 days nothing captured me like the Dreamcast.

That said it was a tough call between my Saturn and my Dreamcast. The fighters (esp the 2d ones) on the Saturn were the bees but I think in terms of all round value the DC just edges it.

360. Best console to date. Massive game library of modern stuff and the XBLA has plenty of retro offerings. Add in the fact that if after they stopped making games for it and I was REALLY bored and I loved playing crappy breakout clones, then I could break out XNA and make my own games.
