It has to be the best game Nintendo has ever made/Mario has ever starred in. Is the Wii version as good as this?

I've played the first bit of the game, seemed quite good. The Wii version is quite different, it doesn't have a turn based battle system (it plays much closer to the more traditional 2D Mario games.) If you want something like 1000 year door get the original Paper Mario for the N64 (or download it from the VC on the Wii). Mario RPG for the Snes is also worth a go as well.

I suspected they may have made the Wii version more "accessible for new gamers". But here they put together a serious gamers game, it even seems strangely adult despite it's Nintendo style cartooniness.

I loved that game, me and the missus both played it for 30+ hours, i'd have a couple of hours on my game then she would take her turn. I was quite happy to watch her play all the same bits I'd just done too :)

The wii version is absolute b*ollocks, possibly the worst sequel ever :( All the charm and colourful graphics are replaced by a tedius by the numbers platform game.

Ditto!

I've never even taken the cellophane off!

Not for any other reason than I just haven't got round to it.
I think I've had it for 8 months now.

My GF played the Wii game. It's good if you like that sort of game, I don't really so.

It's indeed a great game, but quite different from the Wii version.
I never completed it though...

Great game but not like the Wii version which is more an arcade platform..

The N64 version is Just like the Cube one though, so you should love that one just as much..

Thousand Year Door is great. It's what got me to try (and love) Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

Fantastic game, it'd be my favorite last-gen game, but that's Melee for me.

I didn't hate the Wii version; it retains the charming graphical style and humour of the series but I do think it's a bit of weird mash of genres.

TTYD on the other hand is excellent; knew I wanted it as soon as I saw the E3 trailer back in 2004 (must have watched it about 5 times). That and Tales of Symphonia made christmas 2004 truly memorable and a great time to be a GC owner.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

Much to my shame I have never even played a Paper Mario game. I think the closest I came was Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga on GBA, that was pretty cool.
