Re: first game ever finished? (without cheating)
Even though I've been into games since 1979, I don't think I actually finished a game (legitimately) until Super Mario Land on Gameboy which I think I did within a month of 'completing' Tetris (Game B, Handicap 5). Having SO many games to play on the Spectrum and C64 caused me to just load something else if the going got tough, whereas having only the two Gameboy games really focussed me.
To this day, the only two games I ever really complete are the first two I buy for the system.

Huh? I'm playing through it right now (got all the story puzzles, doing bonus right now) and I don't think I had to go for three hints more than five times. I guess I solved 90% without any hints. They aren't that hard. Some I solved in seconds. You might consider resisting the urge to let the game help you longer. The game is about solving these yourself, so if you skip that part you're left with a very short story, a few nice videos and no actual gameplay :/krusty40 wrote:without cheating? think it was Brain Training ha! seriously it was Super Mario on the nintendo took me a few weeks though. at the moment im practically cheating on Professor Layton Curious Village for DS coz i need every single hint to help me with many of the puzzles and im only on puzzle 15! theres something about it that patronises me and makes me feel like a total dunce, or else i could just be bad at puzzles
I'm really looking forward to the sequels, loved the game.
On topic:
I'm not entirely sure. It might have been Super Mario Bros. on the NES, which was certainly the first NES game I finished. I'm not sure though whether I finished any PC games before that. I might have, although I almost entirely played arcade style games like Digger, Paratroopers, Alley Cat etc.

Can't remember, but I'm pretty sure I completed Astro-Wars.
And on an actual computer/console I think it was, oh hang on, It was Flight Zero-One Five on the C16

Probably Harrier Attack or Roland On The Ropes for the Amstrad. Although alot of games from them days just repeated when you reached the end.

I think it was Silkworm on the ZX Spectrum. For the effort required, the end screen felt like a total let-down!

zorro on the atari 800, followed by the goonies a few days later
i had another go at zorro a month or so back and couldn't for the life of me work out how to get through the grave

My first game was Mr. Nutz on Sega mega drive consule, i really like this game, in this game is little squirrel which shooting with nuts his enemies and going around the world and killing his antogonists, after each level was cool boss which was really hard to beat down.

Most likely Prince Of Persia on the Amiga or Street Fighter II: The World Warrior on the SNES.

It has 22 screens doesn't it?
Before the "kill screen".

I may be wrong, (it happens) but i think it was either Automania or Kokotoni Wilf on the Speccy. I know i did them both, but can't remember which one first....
Still haven't finished Manic Miner though...

It was probably Ghostbusters on the C64. It took a few attempts to get through the Marshmallow Man's legs mind you. I also finished Danger Mouse in Double Trouble at around the same time. Man that's a long time ago!! While I think about it I remember looping through Pac-Man on the 2600 **shudder** numerous times. I think the score reset to zero every time it reached 999,999.

I also looped Astro Wars not long after owning it...
First COMPUTER game I completed was Atic Atac, around 1984. I did it in 9 minutes 15 seconds. Accidentally.
I'm not sure how I managed that.
