If you could go back in time...

Post by witchfinder » Fri Feb 13, 2009 7:59 am

... and do one thing related to gaming, when and where would you go to and what would you do?

Would you do something purely for your own benefit, or something that would change the face of gaming as we know it now?

The rules:

1. You can't take anything back in time with you
2. You can't bring anything from the past into the present
3. You can spend as much money as you like in the past

OK, here's mine...

I'd go back to 1984 and buy an Atari Star Wars cockpit, get it sealed in an airtight container and bury it deep under what is now my garden! :D

What would you do?

Either take what i know now about assorted 8-bits back to about 1978 and make a sodding fortune knocking out games for the Atari 8-bit, VIC 20, C64, C16 and so forth or if i'm in a lazy mood i'd go back and invent Space Invaders about two days before Taito did... =-)

take a PS3 or 360 back to the early 80s and proclaim myself as some sort of great wizard.

Really simple, just go back to when I first got my Megadrive and my mates had theirs. The buzz back then was fantastic and a true golden age IMO.

This is a bit like Napoleon Dynamite's uncle: "Don't you ever which you could go back in time?" :)

Go back to 1980 and buy Microsoft shares... purely for gaming reasons! Then I could play games all day, everyday!

I would start up CodeMasters and make loads of Dizzy games and not games like Turning Point and Jerico. Oh, and some other fine games, too (like Slightly Magic and Little Puff!)

Yeah thats probably mine.

That whole era was the best time in gaming EVER.

Everything from about 1992 - 1995. The time when 8 bit and 16 bit machines co-existed, the fact that arcades actually had video games and pinball machines in instead of £35 jackpot fruit machines and infinite generic lightgun games.

I would go back to the late nineties and kick and scream until my parents let me spend my birthday money on an n64 with Goldeneye, Blast Corps and Zelda. I was only about 9 or 10.

Granted the games and the console itself have aged terribly, but I wanted one so bad at the time. Its funny how these days you can just play them all on a pc with a good controller....

But didn't somebody else do that? Or would you kill off the Darling brothers, Terminator-style, then take over their operation? ;)

I go back to the very day Mortal Kombat first hit the arcades and impress everybody with my awesome arsenal of finishing moves before anybody else had seen any of them.

Now, thats an idea. All I need is a time displacment system and somewhere big to store it. If that fails, I'd like to kidnap Trip Hawkins, assume his identity and founder Electronic Arts (and not release a FIFA, NHL, NBA and Need for Speed game every bloody year!!!) And then.......I'D RULE THE WORLD......
